Blisworth Tunnel North Portal The tree has been cleared and is no longer blocking the navigation. RESTRICTION (Thursday 14 July 2022 until further notice) A large Ash tree has come down and is restricting the navigation near the North Portal of Blisworth Tunnel. Boaters can still get past, but are asked to proceed with care. Our local team are attending site, to try and clear the tree as quickly as possible. We will update the website as soon as we have more information. Lock 83, Higgs Lock Further to the notice below, we are pleased to advise that Higgs Lock has now been repaired and is fully operational. Further to the notice below, works are progressing well at Higgs Lock and we still expect to re open later today. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (4pm Tuesday 12 July 2022 until further notice) Please be advised that gate damage means the canal is closed at Higgs Lock. Our engineers have been mobilised to assess the situation and we expect the canal to re open by tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday). We will update this notice in the morning as works progress. Starts At: Lock 72 – Shipley Lock The navigation has now been opened between Shipley Lock and Langley Mill. However, boaters are asked to proceed with caution as the water levels are still lower then we would like, due to the continued hot weather. We will continue to monitor the situation and will update the website if there are any changes. Our local team have been working hard all week and water levels are starting to come back up. However, due to the continued hot weather, we might not have the water levels back to normal until after the weekend. We request that boaters still don’t travel along this section and we will update the website as soon as we know more. Due to vandalism and our lock gates being left open, the water levels have dropped between Shipley Lock and Langley Mill Lock. Our local team are working to get the water levels back up as quickly as possible, but in the meantime, boaters are asked not to travel along this section. As soon as the water levels are back to normal, we will update the website accordingly, but this could take a few days due to how low the water now is. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (Tuesday 12 July 2022 until further notice) Due to vandalism and our lock gates being left open, the water levels have dropped between Eastwood Lock and Langley Mill Lock. Our local team are working to get the water levels back up as quickly as possible, but in the meantime, boaters are asked not to travel along this section. Vazon Swing Bridge – Closed NAVIGATION CLOSURE (9.30am Tuesday 12 July 2022 until further notice) We have been informed by Network Rail that due to the heat Vazon Swing bridge is unable to operate until further notice. Lock 37, Dashwood Lock ADVICE (5.45pm Sunday 10 July 2022 until further notice) Please be aware the O/S bottom gate paddle at Lock 37 Dashwood has been badly damaged and bent, also a gate repair to gate planking displaced, this is resulting in water to escape the lock whilst being filled for use. although the lock is operational, it will be slow to fill until a repair can be made. The local Ops Team along side the Reactive Team are putting together a planned repair. Park Lane Endon Pump out The pump out is now available for use again. ADVICE (9.30am Monday 11 July 2022 until further notice) The pump out is currently out of use, as the hose has been damaged. Contractors have been contacted, so please bear with us whilst they repair the damage. Low water levels between Bracebridge lock and Kilton lock ADVICE (9am Monday 11 July 2022 until further notice) Please be advised we are experiencing low water levels, we are working to improve this however please approach with caution. Lock 3, Oxclose Lock We have been closely monitoring the water levels and it has improved to the point that we can take off the passage restrictions. It is fully operational now to all skippers. We have been monitoring the water resources coming in from the River Skell and we have had to change the hours allowing passage through Oxclose Lock to 10:00 to 12:00 noon in order to conserve water in the Ripon Canal. RESTRICTION (1.15pm Monday 11 July 2022 until further notice) Due to restricted water resources coming in from the River Skell feeder, we are only allowing passage through Oxclose Lock between 10:00 to 14:00 hours, in order to conserve water in the Ripon Canal. Elsan at Hawkesbury CSF The Elsan is now back open. ADVICE (until further notice) The Elsan has a blockage and has been closed until it can be cleared. Contractors have been contacted so please bear with us and we’ll open it as soon as we can. Bridge 20, Outwood Swingbridge Further to the notice below, our contractors have attended site today and carried out a successful temporary repair. We are pleased to re open Outwood Swingbridge to navigation. Please be aware the ongoing issues with swinging this bridge have not been fully resolved and our contractors are planning to return in the next few weeks to carry out further works. Further to the notice below, we are sorry to advise that due to further deterioration of Outwood Swingbridge and safety concerns associated with this, we are closing the bridge to navigation. Our engineering team are working with our contractors to resolve this situation as soon as possible. We will continue to monitor progress and update this notice when we have further information. We are sorry to advise that Outward Swingbridge (Bridge 20) is extremely difficult to open. There are works planned to repair this bridge which have unfortunately been delayed due to the Covid 19 restrictions in spring 2020. We will endeavour to have works completed as soon as possible. In the meantime if you require assistance to operate the bridge, the local team are able to help you during normal working hours (8am – 4:30pm). Hanwell Flight closed for repairs NAVIGATION CLOSURE (until 3pm Wednesday 6 July 2022) Please be aware the Hanwell Flight due to repairs on the locks & paddles. Foot/cycle Bridge Construction, New Islington ADVICE (7am Thursday 7 July until 7pm Friday 8 July 2022) Please be advised third-party contractors will be onsite between Lock 3 and Lock 2 on the Ashton Canal to begin ground investigations (Strip Trench Trial Holes) related to the proposed new foot/cycle bridge adjacent to Lock 3, X4 Trial Holes planned within side the towpath side of the canal. The works are on behalf of the Manchester City Council New Islington Cycleway Footbridge proposal. Signage and traffic management provisions will be in place, warning both the towpath and canal users of the works and restriction ahead. The towpath width will be reduced with narrowing around the works area. Boaters when mooring up to operate Lock 3 may be restricted and considerations for mooring will need to be individually assessed depending on the dimensions of the boats wish to moor Whilst both the towpath and navigation will remain open, we politely request all customers to approach the area with caution and listen to any advice that may be given by the third-party contractors on site Waterpoint – out of service. ADVICE (4pm Tuesday 5 July 2022 until further notice) Please be aware that the water point at this location is out of service until further notice.
