Update on 17/08/2023:

Please be advised the Marple lock flight is currently closed to navigation due to an issue at Lock 7. Please follow further updates here:

Marple Lock Flight Closure, Peak Forest Canal

Update on 16/08/2023

Further to our update published on the 4 August, the ongoing unsettled weather continues to increase the inflows into the reservoirs that feed the Macclesfield & Peak Forest canals. In addition, the continued positive impact of the restricted operating times along the Bosley & Marple lock flights, and a secured feed from Combs reservoir, has allowed us to keep navigation open, albeit with restrictions, and following our latest review, it is anticipated that we will be able to keep navigation open for the rest of the year.

The lock flights will continue to open on the following days and times:

Bosley Lock Flight – open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays

  • Open from 8:30am to allow passage through the flight. Last boat entry to the flight will be at 1pm, and all boats must have exited the flight by 4pm.

Marple Lock Flight – open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays

  • Open from 8:30am to allow passage through the flight. Last boat entry to the flight will be at 12 noon, and all boats must have exited the flight by 4pm.

Both Lock Flights will be closed on Fridays to help the summit water levels to recover ahead of the weekend demand.

This situation will continue to be reviewed on a weekly basis and as soon as we are able to remove these restrictions, we will provide a further update.

Weaver Navigation/Trent & Mersey Canal

Intersection of: Anderton Boat Lift to Anderton Boat Lift on Weaver Navigation and
Basin Footbridge, Anderton Boat Lift to Basin Footbridge, Anderton Boat Lift on Trent & Mersey Canal

Update on 23/03/2023:

Over the many months that the Anderton Boat Lift has been out of service we have experienced and overcome some very significant challenges but works have continued to progress well. As we enter the recalibrating phase and carry out the safety testing, we are now in a position to confirm we will be open with one caisson from the Easter Weekend from Friday 7 April as planned.

Working with a unique structure that has undergone works never before attempted, as well as being out of operation for a long period of time, we will be operating on a reduced schedule for the first 2 weeks. This is effectively a recommissioning period that we want to make available to boating customers in time for the Easter holidays, also being aware that the Lift has been unavailable and under repair for such a prolonged period of time. This period will allow our customers to plan ahead and use the Lift, as well as guarantee passage should we incur any unscheduled breakdowns, possibly with some delays.

Passage for the first two weeks only will be available to book from Monday 3 April.

From Monday 24 April, we expect to be in a position to offer our normal full passage schedule with both caissons in operation. We are not expecting there will be any changes to this, but we will confirm and issue progress updates during the testing period, only if any changes are necessary.

Passage from Monday 24 April will be available to book from Monday 17 April, subject to the successful testing period.

All passages must be booked in advance, we will not be able to take bookings onsite. Bookings can be made via your online account. Alternatively, you can call and book with our team on 0303 0404040.

We would really like to thank our customers for their patience during this time and look forward to seeing you and your boats back at the Lift and on the Weaver Navigation this summer.

Nottingham & Beeston Canal

Meadow Lane -CSF

ADVICE (Saturday 1 April 2023 until further notice)

From 1st April 2023 the customer rubbish bins at Meadow Lane lock will no longer be available.

Since the development of property on the adjacent land in 2019, our waste contractors have not been able to service the refuse collection at this location.  In an effort to continue to provide this facility for our customers, we installed smaller wheelie bins that have been emptied by Trust staff by hand.  Unfortunately, the levels of vandalism, fly tipping and general abuse of the facility make this solution unsustainable for our colleagues to manage.

Alternative customer bins are available at Holme Lock (approximately 4km downstream on the River Trent) and Beeston (approximately 8km upstream on the Nottingham & Beeston Canal).

Tees Navigation

Barrage Lock

BOOKING INFORMATION (8am Sunday 1 January 2023 until further notice)

Original message:

From 1 January 2023, Tees Lock will only be operated in core hours and on a booking system. Bookings for passage are to be made at least 48 hours in advance of passage, though we will accept bookings at shorter notice if we have capacity. Core hours are 7am – 9pm in Summer (British Summer Time) and 8am – 6pm in Winter, 7 days a week

If you arrive a little late, passage would still be permitted, and a vessel would not be left stranded on tidal waters. If we have a team on site and you arrive without a booking, we will endeavour to lock you through. Requests for passage outside the core hours will be considered and with as much notice as possible we will do our best to accommodate all such requests.

As always with the River Tees, passage will also be dependent on river conditions i.e. their being enough water over the cill and downstream flow of less than 120 cumecs. You can view the flows on our web site here CRT MEICA / SCADA (canalrivertrust.org.uk)

Please call the Tees Barrage on 01642 633273 between 0800 and 1630 to make a booking for the lock.
