A LIVELY celebration of Scotland’s maritime heritage is set to return to Portsoy in June, with organisers issuing an open invitation to traditional boats and their crews.
The Scottish Traditional Boat Festival, which will take place on June 13-14, is expected to draw more than 13,000 visitors to the town’s historic 17th‑century harbour, creating one of the largest gatherings in the region of wooden vessels, craftspeople and maritime enthusiasts.

The weekend will offer crews the chance to showcase their vessels and share their stories with the public, while also meeting fellow boatbuilders, owners and supporters of traditional seafaring skills. Alongside the flotilla, visitors can expect live music, dance, and a strong showing of Scottish food and drink, as well as demonstrations of long‑established maritime and coastal crafts.
Organisers are keen to welcome both returning participants and newcomers. Registration for boats and crews is now open, with details available through the festival’s maritime participation portal: www.stbfportsoy.org/take-part/maritime
The event is supported by National Historic Ships UK, which continues to champion the preservation and celebration of the nation’s historic vessels.
