Poolstock lock no 2 on the Leigh branch of the Leeds and Liverpool canal in Wigan on the 5th of December 2022. The lock has been under repair to try to reduce water leakage through the lock gates since the 21st of November. The end of the stoppage to boat traffic was delayed slightly; it was due to finish on this Monday but over ran by a day or so. Here Canal and River Trust lads are removing the pipe work from the lock side that had been used to pump water around the lock while one of their workboats is moored on the lock landing and the fibre dam waits to be removed. The length of canal above the lock will then be refilled with water, all the works checked and then the lock will reopen to boat traffic, with hopefully the gates not letting as much water through as they had done previously. These works where a emergency stoppage, not listed on the planned schedule of winter works, but following the dry spring and summer it had become a challenge to keep enough water flowing to these locks to enable boat passage.
