Update on 03/06/2023:

Navigation reopened on the Rochdale Canal in Hebden Bridge between Lock 9, Mayroyd Lock and Lock 8, Blackpit Lock.

Water levels now back to normal level.

Padlocks now removed and boaters are free to use the locks.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (10am Saturday 3 June 2023 until further notice)

Navigation closure on the Rochdale Canal in Hebden Bridge between Lock 9, Mayroyd Lock and Lock 8, Blackpit Lock.

The closure is due to low water levels in the pound. We are currently trying to recover the levels within the pound but the locks have been padlocked up to stop any use and further loss of water. 

Lock 4, Fishpond Lock

Update on 06/06/2023:

Engineers have attended and rectified the fault.

And the lock is open for normal operation.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (1pm Monday 5 June 2023 until further notice)

The upstream gate ram has been impacted by a boat, resulting in damage to the gate ram. Due to this the lock isn’t operable until further notice. An update will be provided tomorrow when contractors are set to attend. 

Doncaster Lock

RESTRICTION (5pm Saturday 3 June 2023 until further notice)

A fault has developed on the downstream gates, engineers have attended site and have order parts to compete the repairs.

The lock is currently restricted for customer operation to a single down stream gate.

Volunteer/Staff will be onsite between 10:00-14:00  on 4th June to assist with passage through the lock.

Passage outside of these times will be restricted to  narrow boats only using a single gate.  

Lock 4, Weston Lock

Update on 08/06/2023:

Water levels have started to come back up and boaters can now proceed as normal.

Update on 07/06/2023:

Water levels have continue to come back up over night, but please still lock up in twos for the time being.

We will update the website at the end of today with more information.

RESTRICTION (2pm Monday 5 June 2023 until further notice)

Debris preventing the gates from closing at Weston Lock has now been removed and water levels in this navigation are currently being topped up.

Please avoid this section where possible, or lock up in twos if absolutely necessary to save water.

We hope to have levels back up to normal tomorrow morning and an advisory update will be posted.

Lock 81, Hamstead Lock

Update on 05/06/2023:

Further to the notice below, we are pleased to advise that Hamstead Lock 81 has now been repaired and is fully operational.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (1pm Sunday 4 June 2023 until further notice)

We are sorry to advise that the bottom lock gates at Hamstead Lock has sustained damage which has resulted in both paddles controlling water pressure becoming unusable.

Unfortunately, this means that the lock is currently closed.

Our teams are currently assessing the damage and repair.

We will update this notice as soon as we have further information.

Upper Wellingborough Lock

ADVICE (Saturday 3 June 2023 until further notice)

We have received reports concerning the paddles being left open at Upper Wellingborough Lock.
Please ensure when leaving the lock the paddles are left completely closed.
This applies to all locks on the navigation.

Lilford Lock

Update on 5/06/2023:

The emergency navigation closure notice issued on 3 June 2023 for Lilford Lock on the River Nene is now rescinded and the lock re-opened to navigation.

EMERGENCY CLOSURE (Saturday 3 June 2023 until further notice)

Due to a mechanical failure Lilford Lock is closed until further notice.

Bridge 110, Sandhole Bridge

RESTRICTION (2pm Sunday 4 June 2023 until further notice)

 Due to a fallen tree across the canal from offside 200m south of Bridge 110 Sandhole Bridge, we would advise that narrow beam craft pass with extreem caution, not passable by wide beam craft.

Our contractor has been contacted to attend for clearance, updates to follow.

Lock 24 West

Update on 07/06/2023:

We are pleased to advise the repair to Lock 24 West on the Huddersfield Narrow canal has been successful and navigation has resumed.

Update on 05/06/2023:

Please be advised navigation remains closed at Lock 24 West on the Huddersfield Narrow canal, due to a damaged cill. 

Our local team and engineers are in the process of establishing method of repair.

A further update will be provided Wednesday 7 June.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (1.45pm Sunday 4 June 2023 until further notice)

Please be advised navigation is closed at Lock 24 West on the Huddersfield Narrow canal, due to a damaged cill. 

Our local team have been informed and have been to site.

Initial investigations have now been completed and a plan of repair is now been organised.

An update will be provided tomorrow afternoon 5th June 2023.

Approx 10m Downstream of Railway Bridge at Milton Ferry

Update on 5/06/2023:

The tree in the navigation at Milton Ferry has been removed therefore our navigation advisory notice issued on 25 April 2023 is now rescinded.

ADVICE (Tuesday 25 April 2023 until further notice)

Please be aware there is a tree extending into the navigation channel approximately 10 metres downstream of the railway bridge at Milton Ferry. The tree extends into the navigation but is passable with care. The W3W for this area is:///post.pits.pest

Please proceed with extreme caution whilst navigating in this area.

A willow tree has fallen across the towpath and into the canal just downstream of swing bridge number 4.

Further to the notice below, we are pleased to offer assisted passage for narrow beams only through Benham Lock on Tuesday 6th June between the hours of 10am and 11.30am.

The team are mobilising for a permanent fix on Wednesday 7th June / Thursday 8th June to enable full navigational access.

We will update this notice when the works have been completed.

Update on 02/06/2023:

Further to the notice below, we are pleased to offer assisted passage for narrow beams only through Benham Lock on Saturday 3rd June and Sunday 4th June between the hours of 10am and 11.30am.

Engineers have been to site, and we are mobilising for a permanent fix early next week.

This message will be updated on Monday 5th June.
