This has been reported to our contractors and will be dealt with in a priority order. 

Bridge 31, Stone Chimney Bridge

Update on 21/12/2023:

We are pleased to advise that the towpath has reopened and navigation has resumed at Bridge 31, Lancaster Canal.

Towpath outside Cookley Tunnel

Update on 21/12/2023:

We’re pleased to advised contractors have cleared the loose rubble and the towpath is open again.

Audlem Services

Update on 21/12/2023:

We are pleased to advise that the Elsan facility is now back in use at Audlem Customer Service Facilities. 

Under Bridge 12, Thurcaston Road Bridge

Update on 20/12/2023:

After a further review by our engineers, it has been decided that Thurcaston Road Bridge is to remain closed off with permanent fencing.

The closure is still in place as the sink hole is still there and needs our maintenance team to carry out the required repair works.

The towpath is still closed although we have been able to reduce the risk on the ground with the improved fencing.

Work is being planned in for next year, and we will update this notice by the end of August or as soon as we have further information.  We will continue to monitor the situation carefully. 

Downstream of Castle Mills Lock

ADVICE (Thursday 21 December 2023 until rescinded)

Please be aware of a large tree limb in the centre channel of navigation downstream of Castle Mills Lock .
We will look into the practicalities of removing the tree limb once the river levels have reduced and the Strong Stream Advice for Boaters has been removed.

Bridge 32, Crabtree Swing Bridge

Update on 21/12/2023:

Please be advised navigation remains closed at Bridge 32, Crabtree Swing Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

Our specialist contractors are returning to site on Saturday 23 December to undertake works to repair the power issue preventing safe operation of the bridge.

Should this repair be successful navigation will resume on the afternoon of Saturday 23 December.

We understand the importance of keeping navigation open, especially during the festive season, and we would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your understanding during this temporary closure.

Update on 21/12/2023:

Contractors are due on site tomorrow to remove the tree. As soon as we receive a timeframe, we’ll update the notice.

Starts At: Braunston Tunnel West Portal
Ends At: Braunston Tunnel East Portal

ADVICE (7.30-10am Thursday 21 December 2023)

Braunston tunnel will be closed to traffic from 07:30, possibly until 10:00 on Thursday 21st December for the passage of a widebeam boat travelling from Braunston to Welton.

Boats may enter the tunnel if directed to do so by a Trust representative at the tunnel portal or after 09:00 if no representative is present. 

Approx 100m Upstream of Hockwold Sluice

Updated 21/12/2023:

The boat adrift approx 100m u/s of Hockwold Sluice on the Little Ouse has been moved and secured to a safe location. Our advisory notice issued on 19/12 is therefore rescinded.

Bosley Services

Update on 19/12/2023:

We are pleased to advise the Pump Out station at Bosley Customer Service Facilities is back open, and the nozzle has now been repaired.

Update on 20/12/2023:

Linton Lock is open for navigation, but it is working on only one sluice on the upstream.

We will update the notice when repairs are to be carried out.

Open – Naburn Locks

Update on 20/12/2023:

Water levels have returned to an operational level and are now open.

Visual Bridge Inspection

Bridge 8 (Railway)

ADVICE (8am-6pm Wednesday 20 December 2023)

SAS Rope and Rail will be undertaking a visual inspection of Railway Bridge 8 on the Lee Navigation via a modular pontoon and safety boat within the water.

Navigation & towpath will always remain unrestricted.
