Caford Fun Run

EVENT (9am-1pm Wednesday 27 December 2023)

We are pleased to welcome the Caford Fun Run on Wednesday 27 December between 9am and 1pm.

This event will take place between Bridge 21, Hibberts Brow and Bridge 28, Greens Bridge on the Macclesfield Canal.

The towpath will remain open although we anticipate that it will be busier than usual, so please exercise caution when walking through the area in which the event is taking place

Further to the notice below, please be advised that the section between Lock 7, Bevere Lock to Lock 9,  Lincomb Lock is currently designated:

We advise users of all boats not to navigate because the strong flows make it difficult and dangerous (locks may be closed).

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (Monday 25 December until Tuesday 26 December 2023)

Please be advised that Foxton locks will be closed on 25th and 26th December.

Due to limited resources, we are unable to safely open the locks for operation.

Normal winter hours will resume on 27th December, and will be open 9:30am until 3:30pm, last boat in at 2:45pm.

Update on 22/12/2023:

We are pleased to advise the tree obstructing the towpath and navigation has been removed and the canal is now open between Bridge 9, Windlehurst Bridge and Bridge 11, Manchester & Buxton Rd on the Macclesfield Canal.

Between Bridges 214B and 215

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (8am Saturday 23 December 2023 until further notice)

A windblown tree is blocking the navigation between bridges 214B and 215.

Our contractors have been informed and will be attending at the earliest opportunity.

Notice will be updated following attendance.

The tree is now only restricting navigation. We’re hoping the contractors will clear the rest of the tree later day.

Near Awsworth Road Bridge 11 – Erewash Canal

Update on 22/12/2023:

Derbyshire police have confirmed that the vehicle that was in the Erewash Canal near Awsworth Road Bridge 11 has now been removed.  The navigation is open again.
