RESTRICTION (until 6pm Saturday 16 July 2022)

Hankinson Group are undertaking refurbishment works to the bridge which is owned by Yorkshire County Council.

They will be undertaking repairs from attached scaffolding and pontoon, whilst leaving enough space for a wide beamed-boats to pass.

Could skippers of all crafts, please slow down and approach the area with caution and follow any instructions given by staff on site.

Delays of up to 20 miniutes may be experienced while equipment is moved out of the way.

Please note we have 3 widebeam transits taking place through Blisworth tunnel on Wednesday 15th June at 8am. 

This will cause delays for any narrowboats travelling. If you are planning to use the tunnel, please be through before 8am or aim to arrive after 9:30am.

Update on 25/08/2022:

Midland Metro will be returning on site to complete the installation of bird mesh and brick repairs to new bridge abutments. Towpath will remain open and banksmen and signage will be utilised to manage canal traffic and pedestrians. Works to be finished on 02/09/22.

– Works on the Southern towpath – 30.08.22 – 31.08.22

– Works on the Northern towpath – 01.09.22 – 02.09.22

– No restrictions to navigation

ADVICE (Until 5pm Sunday 31 July 2022)

Update on 11/07/2022:

Bird mesh installation and brickwork repairs on central pier have been completed and the pontoon has been removed from canal.

Contractors will need to come back to complete further brickwork repairs and to install the bird mesh to both abutments, but these works will be carried out without closing the towpath or restricting the navigation. Banksmen and signage will be utilised to manage towpath users.

Update on 01/07/2022:

Bird mesh installation and brickwork repairs have been completed on 01/07/22. However, pontoon suppliers won’t be able to remove the pontoon until 08/07/22 so pontoon will remain to one side of the central pier until then. 

Navigation traffic will be restricted to single lane traffic through the site until 08/07/22. Banksmen and signage will be utilised to manage canal traffic. We kindly remind boaters to take extra care when passing this section.

The northern towpath will be open on 01/07/22.

TOWPATH CLOSURE (until 5pm Friday 1 July 2022)

Update on 22/06/2022:

The bird mesh fabricators are unable to complete their installation until 01/07/2022.

The Northern towpath will remain closed, and the pontoon installed to one side of the central pier until 01/07/2022.

Towpath access past the bridge will still be available on the Southern towpath side. Navigation will be restricted to single lane traffic through the site.

TOWPATH CLOSURE (8am Monday 13 June until 5pm Friday 24 June 2022)

Update on 13/06/2022:

Due to a delay in the fabrication of the bird mesh, remaining brickwork repairs and installation of the bird mesh will be carried out from 13/06/2022 to 24/06/2022. 

The northern towpath will be closed, and a pontoon installed to one side of the central pier. 

Towpath access past the bridge will still be available on the southern towpath, and navigation traffic will be restricted to single lane traffic through the site. 

Banksmen and signage will be utilised to manage canal traffic. We kindly remind boaters to take extra care when passing this section

Original message:

The southern towpath will be restricted while brick repair works are completed.

On the 30th May, the southern towpath restriction will be removed and the northern towpath will be closed, with pontoons installed across half of the width of navigation until 10th June.

Access past the bridge will still be available on the southern towpath, and navigation traffic will be restricted to single lane traffic through the site.

ADVICE (until 6pm Saturday 18 June 2022)

Genco Construction have been commissioned by Tesco to undertake repair works to their retaining wall along the towpath by Bridge 4, Three Mills Lane.

Works will involve the reduction in height of the wall and removal of all trees and vegetation on Tesco’s land side.

Towpath & access point will be closed for 2 weeks to help facilitate the works; a directional diversion will be in place with signage showing the diversion route.

Navigation will always remain unrestricted.

The vessel has been removed and the attached notice is now rescinded.

Please be aware there is a sunken vessel on the left hand bank outside of
Priory Marina which has been boomed off. If using What3Words:

ADVICE (8am Tuesday 7 June until 6pm Friday 10 June 2022)

For Health & Safety reasons, contractors on behalf of Network Rail will be taking down the damaged top section of the wall to prevent possible masonry falling onto the towpath.

Lookouts will be on towpath to safely manage users through the work area. Once made safe the retaining wall will be revisited to undertake a full repair. 

An updated notice will be issued once repair dates are confirmed.

The police have advised of a stolen motorbike entering the canal at this location.

This obstruction is in the centre channel of the canal and poses a risk to craft.   

The navigation is currently closed at this location until the motorbike can be recovered for the Police investigation.
