ADVICE (1.30pm Monday 20 June 2022 until further notice) The Elsan has a blockage and has been closed until it can be cleared. Contractors have been contacted so please bear with us and we’ll open it as soon as we can. Approx ½ Mile D/S of St Ives Guided Bus Bridge Update on 27/06/2022: This notice is now rescinded. RESTRICTION (Tuesday 21 June 2022 until rescinded) We have received a report of a fallen tree which is restricting the width of the We are looking into this report as soon as it is practical to do so but, in the Damage to River Pump The water levels have been recovering well since the replacement pump was installed yesterday and we can now reopen the navigation. We are however experiencing a persistent leak through the head gate at Lock 7 and we want to ensure that we are reducing the risk of low water levels returning. As a short term measure, until the leak can be further investigated and a suitable repair established, Lock 7 will be open for passage from 9am to 3pm only, with last entry through the lock being 3pm. Outside of these hours the lock will be chained up and we will wash the gate at the end of each day to help ensure leakage is reduced overnight. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. The pump has now been replaced and is fully operational. Water levels are recovering and we will review first thing tomorrow morning with a view of reopening the navigation. Contractors have attended site today and were unable to fix the fault and will need to replace the pump. The craning in of a replacement pump has been scheduled for tomorrow morning. We will update the notice once water levels have improved. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (1pm Monday 20 June 2022 until further notice) Due to suspected vandalism of the river pump at Lock 16, which is pumping water from the river to the canal, the pump is now non operational. We are working to try and get this back up and running as soon as we can. As a consequence water levels have been affected and we need to implement a temporary navigational closure between Lock 7 and Lock 16 until we have this issue resolved. Leighton Buzzard Canoe Club Hasler Event ADVICE (10.30am-2.30pm Sunday 19 June 2022) A canoe event organised by Leighton Buzzard Canoe Club, is planned for Sunday 19 June 2022. The event will use a section of navigation between Soulbury Three Locks and Slapton Lock 30 on the Grand Union Canal. Around 80 people are expected to be involved and the event will run between 10:30am and 2:30pm. Gannow Tunnel North East ADVICE (7am Monday 20 June until 7pm Saturday 25 June 2022) Please be advised, Third party contractors will be onsite at Gannow Tunnel on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. The third party contractors working for Lancashire County council will be undertaking repairs to the steps that support towpath access for Gannow Tunnel. Pedestrians will have access to the towpath using a ramped path adjacent to the steps under the supervision of the marshals. Whilst navigation will remain open, we politely request all customers to approach the area with caution and be prepared to wait if necessary. Please take note of the signage and to listen to any advice that may be given by the third party contractors onsite. Broad Street Customer Service Facility The facility is now open again. We apologise for the time it has taken to resolve the drainage issues. Navigation Yard Swing Bridge (Footbr) Please be advised Navigation Yard Swing Bridge on the Weaver Navigation remains locked off to use due to an issue affecting safe operation. Whilst our teams continue their investigations this bridge cannot be swung for larger vessels. A further update will be provided Wednesday 22 June. RESTRICTION (1pm Wednesday 15 June 2022 until further notice) Please be advised, due to an issue affecting safe operation, Navigation Yard Swing Bridge on the Weaver Navigation is locked off to use and cannot be swung for larger vessels. Our local engineer is attending site this afternoon to assess the issue and an update will be provided tomorrow, Thursday 16 June. Pontoon installation with priority navigation, south of Lock 86 Widewater Lock ADVICE (Wednesday 15 June 2022 until Friday 31 May 2024) Due to major HS2 works, the access track to the Angling Club adjacent to the offside of the canal will be closed to allow construction works to take place. To provide access, the contractor would like to install a temporary pontoon roadway over the canal. A pontoon, 33m in length will be installed on the offside, 560m South of Lock 86 Widewater Lock of the Grand Union canal. The pontoon will be maintained by HS2s main contractor Align and will be fitted with edge marker lights. There will be Priority Narrowing to the navigation using chicane buoys and advanced warning signage will be in place on the towpath. Navigation will be single file for both narrowboats and wide beams and boating traffic may have to stop and give priority in equal amounts. Mooring provision is not present within the vicinity of the site and will not be provided due to the profile of the canal bed. Customers will not need to book, and the towpath will remain open. The pontoon and priority narrowing to the navigation are expected be in place for up to 2 years
