Due to Rising River levels, Passage through Doncaster Lock is not possible at this time.

We will review the river level tomorrow and update this notice when river levels have returned to normal.

RESTRICTION (2pm Tuesday 10 January 2023 until further notice)

Please be advised navigation is restricted due to a sunken craft on the towpath side of the Leeds & Liverpool canal just north of Bridge 152, Cockshott Bridge, Barnoldswick.

We politely request all customers to navigate through the area with care.

An update will be provided once the craft has been removed.

Update on 12/01/2023:

We are pleased to advise the tree obstructing navigation has been removed and the canal is now open at Bridge 94, Livesey Hall Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.


NAVIGATION CLOSURE (11am Wednesday 11 January 2023 until further notice)

Please be advised navigation is closed at Bridge 94, Livesey Hall Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal due to a windblown tree.

Contractors have been informed and we anticipate they will be on site tomorrow to remove the obstruction.

An update will be provided this tomorrow, Thursday 12 January. 

Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal

Please be advised that the shower at Llangattock customer service facility is currently out of service.

The toilets are still available.

Tame Valley Canal

South Towpath between Crankhall Lane Bridge and Friar Park Farm Bridge

TOWPATH CLOSURE (7am Monday 13 March until 6pm Friday 21 April 2023)

Update on 10/03/2023:

The badger survey has been completed and no signs of badger activity have been identified.

Works will now resume on 13/03/23. The towpath will be closed until 21/04/23 to facilitate the construction of a new outfall into the canal.

A diversion route will be in place and pedestrians will be able to use the towpath on the north between Crankhall Lane Bridge and Friar Park Farm Bridge.

Navigation will remain open, but a silt curtain and porta dam will be installed for protection of the canal at the location where the outfall is to be built, which will restrict the width of the navigation.

TOWPATH CLOSURE (7am Monday 30 January until 6pm Monday 27 February 2023)

Update on 18/01/2023:

Due to signs of potential badger activity within the footprint of the excavation works on the cutting, a badger inspection of the area needs to be carried out. This has caused a delay on construction works and the towpath will remain open until 30/01/23. We will provide further updates with regards to the extension of the towpath closure and the impact of these works to the canal and navigation after the badger survey is undertaken.


TOWPATH CLOSURE (7am Monday 16 January until 6pm Monday 27 February 2023)

The south towpath between Crankhall Lane Bridge and Friar Park Farm Bridge will be closed due to the installation of a new outfall into the canal, as part of the new residential development undertaken by Countryside Properties.

Navigation will remain open but a silt curtain and porta dam will also be installed for protection of the canal at the location where the outfall is to be built, which will restrict the width of the navigation

Signage and buoys will be utilised to manage pedestrians and canal traffic. We kindly advise towpath users and boaters to follow signage and directions given on site. Please take extra care when passing through this area.

Due to fouled top gates, lock 77 has been locked off from use until the gate Cill can be cleared of debris, our operatives will be back on site Saturday 7th Jan to attempt to  clear debris/objects from Cill to allow safe operation of lock, further updates will follow.

Please note our Navigation Advisory Notice issued on 4 Jan 23 for a tree in navigation upstream of Castle Mills Lock has been rescinded.

ADVICE (Wednesday 4 January 2023 until rescinded)

Please be aware of a large tree in the
central channel of the river currently located
upstream of Castle Mills Lock.
We will look into the practicalities of
removing this tree as soon as it is safe to do
so in the meantime and subject to strong
stream conditions please navigate with
extreme caution when in this area.

ADVICE (7.30-9am Thursday 5 January 2023)

Blisworth tunnel will be closed to traffic from 07:30, possibly until 09:00 on Thursday 5th January for the passage of a widebeam boat travelling from Stoke Bruerne to Blisworth.

Boats may enter the tunnel if directed to do so by CRT staff at the tunnel portal or after 08:00 if no member of CRT is present.

Erewash Canal

Update on 16/01/2023:

Our contractors have now attended site and cleared the tree. Boaters can proceed as normal.

Update on 11/01/2023:

After completing our investigations, we require our contractors to clear this tree.

A job has been raised with our contractors and as soon as we have a completion date, we will update the website accordingly. 

RESTRICTION (Thursday 5 January 2023 until further notice)

There is a tree down partially blocking the navigation just north of Potters Lock 69 on the Erewash Canal.

Narrowboats may be able to pass, however widebeams will struggle.

A member of the operations team is being sent out to investigate, however it is likely this will require contractors to remove. As soon as we have attended site we will update the website accordingly.

The blockage has now been cleared and the Elsan is open.

Update on 05/01/2023:

We are pleased to advise the Pump Out has been repaired and is now back in use at Plank Lane Customer Service Facilities.

Please be advised the Pump Out station at Plank Lane Customer Service Facilities is currently out of use due to faulty card reader. All other facilities are still in use.

Contractors have been informed and we anticipate their attendance tomorrow.
