South Towpath between Crankhall Lane Bridge and Friar Park Farm Bridge

TOWPATH CLOSURE (7am Monday 13 March until 6pm Friday 21 April 2023)

Update on 10/03/2023:

The badger survey has been completed and no signs of badger activity have been identified.

Works will now resume on 13/03/23. The towpath will be closed until 21/04/23 to facilitate the construction of a new outfall into the canal.

A diversion route will be in place and pedestrians will be able to use the towpath on the north between Crankhall Lane Bridge and Friar Park Farm Bridge.

Navigation will remain open, but a silt curtain and porta dam will be installed for protection of the canal at the location where the outfall is to be built, which will restrict the width of the navigation.

TOWPATH CLOSURE (7am Monday 30 January until 6pm Monday 27 February 2023)

Update on 18/01/2023:

Due to signs of potential badger activity within the footprint of the excavation works on the cutting, a badger inspection of the area needs to be carried out. This has caused a delay on construction works and the towpath will remain open until 30/01/23. We will provide further updates with regards to the extension of the towpath closure and the impact of these works to the canal and navigation after the badger survey is undertaken.

TOWPATH CLOSURE (7am Monday 16 January until 6pm Monday 27 February 2023)

The south towpath between Crankhall Lane Bridge and Friar Park Farm Bridge will be closed due to the installation of a new outfall into the canal, as part of the new residential development undertaken by Countryside Properties.

Navigation will remain open but a silt curtain and porta dam will also be installed for protection of the canal at the location where the outfall is to be built, which will restrict the width of the navigation

Signage and buoys will be utilised to manage pedestrians and canal traffic. We kindly advise towpath users and boaters to follow signage and directions given on site. Please take extra care when passing through this area.
