Update on 06/04/2023:

We are pleased to advise the repair to Lock 77 on the Rochdale canal has been successful, and we are now refilling the pound. We anticipate this will take 2 hours to refill, with navigation open by 12pm today.

An update will be provided should this information change.

Update on 05/04/2023:

Navigation remains closed at Lock 77 on the Rochdale Canal due to a paddle failure. Our team carried out a temporary repair to assist with a customer stuck in the lock, however further works are needed to be able to safely re-open the lock for customer use.

An update will be provided tomorrow, Thursday 6 April.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (1pm Wednesday 5 April 2023 until further notice)

Please be advised navigation is currently closed at Lock 77 on the Rochdale Canal due to a paddle failure.

Our teams are currently investigating the issue and an update will be provided later this afternoon.

Grand Union Canal

Update on 05/04/2023:

The work has been completed. Boaters can now operate the lock as normal.

Update on 29/03/2023:

Towpath side lower gate paddle has become detached, which means it is temporarily out of action.

The lock remains operational using the offside gate paddle by the pub, but delays can be expected. Please proceed with care.

Repairs are being planned in and the website will be updated on the 6th April.

Lancaster Canal

Update on 14/04/2023:

We are pleased to advise our local team have successfully broken down and removed the water reeds, and navigation has resumed as normal between Bridge 89, New Park Bridge, and Bridge 91, Brantbeck Bridge on the Lancaster Canal.

ADVICE (4pm Tuesday 4 April 2023 until further notice)

Please be advised we are requesting all boaters to navigate with caution between Bridge 89, New Park Bridge, and Bridge 91, Brantbeck Bridge on the Lancaster Canal due to three sections of water reeds making navigation through this area difficult.

Our local team will be onsite from Thursday 13 April between Bridge 89, New Park Bridge, and Bridge 91, Brantbeck Bridge on the Lancaster Canal to carry out necessary vegetation works.

Whilst the canal and towpath will remain open, customers may be asked to wait no longer than 30 minutes whilst equipment is moved out the way to allow for a safe passage. We politely request all customers to approach the area with caution and to listen to any advice that may be given by the local team onsite.

Ashby Canal

Update on 04/04/2023:

We have been advised that our contractors are still waiting on parts to repair the waterpoint at Lime Kiln, near bridge 15 on the Ashby Canal.

They are currently unable to provide a date for this repair, however as soon as they can we will update the website further.

ADVICE (Thursday 30 March 2023 until further notice)

The water point at Lime Kiln, near bridge 15 on the Ashby Canal is out of order.

Our contractors have attended site to repair, but there is an issue with the valve and so they have had to order an additional part. 

At this time they do not have a date for delivery but we will contact them and update the website with further information on Monday 3rd April. 

Aire & Calder Navigation Main Line

Update on 04/04/2023:

Engineers have attended site and repaired fault. Navigation is now open. 

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (3.30pm Monday 3 April 2023 until further notice)

There is a suspected a technical failure with a gate sensor preventing the lock operating properly.

Our engineers are aware and will attend site as soon as practical to investigate and repair.

Canal and river Trust apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Hertford Union Canal

This has now been resolved and navigation is reopen

Please be aware for the next few hours the pounds between Locks 1, 2 and 3 will be lowered to perform emergency work on a culvert.

Once this has been completed we’ll refill the pounds.

River Nene

Update on 06/04/2023:

The bridge has been fixed. Navigation open.

Update on 05/04/2023:

We are expecting the contractor to arrive at around 12noon tomorrow to fit the new motor, so we are hoping to have navigation open by then.

We will post an update as soon as this we hear anything further.

Update on 05/04/2023:

The Engineer arrived yesterday and found that the hydraulic motor had burnt out so the bridge is currently still inoperable. However, we have managed to source a motor and someone will be going out tomorrow to fit it, so we hope to have navigation open again tomorrow (06/04/22)

We haven’t received a timeframe for when the contractor will arrive tomorrow, but we will update the notice as soon as we have received this.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (9am Tuesday 4 April 2023 until further notice)

There is a fault with Ivyhouse Lift Bridge and it is unable to be operated at present.

Our contactors are on the way to attend and assess the situation. We will provide an update as soon as more information becomes available.

Leeds & Liverpool Canal

Update on 19/04/2023:

Please be advised whilst works to the third-party landslide remain on going between Bridge 82, Top Lock Bridge and Bridge 84, Engine Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, navigation has now opened up to Wide Beam boats with a beam of 12ft 6inch and less.

We politely request all customers to navigate through the affected area with care.

A further update will be provided Monday May 1.

Update on 03/04/2023:

Please be advised navigation remains restricted to narrowboats between Bridge 82, Top Lock Bridge and Bridge 84, Engine Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, due to a third-party landslide which has resulted in debris deposited on the offside.

Navigation will remain open, however we politely request all customers to navigate through the affected area with care.

An update will be provided Monday 1 May.

Selby Rail Bridge

RESTRICTION (12noon Monday 3 April 2023 until further notice)

We have been informed by Network Rail that Selby Rail Bridge is presently unable to swing.

Vessels not requiring a swing can still pass. For details of available headroom please contact the bridge operator on 0330 858 7749 before planning passage.

Network Rail maintenance teams are attending and will reopen the bridge as soon as circumstances permit.

This notice will be updated as soon as further information becomes available
