Third Party Works – Dunstons Pipe Bridge ADVICE (8am Friday 5 May until 6pm Friday 26 May 2023) Third party contractors will be carrying out repairs on a raising main, navigation will not be affected however could skippers of all craft slow down on approach and take any instruction from workers on site. Access to the work site will via the track through Thorne Cruising Club Marina. Banana Warehouse, Fazeley Street Street, Birmingham ADVICE (8am Friday 5 May until 5pm Friday 30 June 2023) The navigation and towpath will remain open. Contractors Onsite will be installing a fabric dam and scaffolding to facilitate the inspection of the canal basin and the canopy/building on the offside of canal. Boaters will be allowed to pass causing minimal disruption to the canal network. Signage will be utilised to manage canal traffic, care should be taken whilst passing through this section. Starts At: Braunston Tunnel West Portal BOOKING INFORMATION (7.30-9am Friday 5 May 2023) Braunston tunnel will be closed to traffic from 07:30, possibly until 09:00 on Friday 5th May for the passage of a widebeam boat travelling from Braunston to Welton. Boats may enter the tunnel if directed to do so by a Trust representative at the tunnel portal or after 08:00 if no representative is present. Starts At: Newtown Bridge TOWPATH CLOSURE (until 5pm Friday 26 May 2023) Please be advised the towpath will be closed from Newtown Bridge to Middle Bridge on the Stourbridge Canal. This is for towpath improvement works starting Monday 1st May and finishing Friday 26th May. Bridge 9, Handcocks Swing Bridge We are pleased to advise Bridge 9, Handcocks Swing Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool canal has been successfully repaired and is now back in operation. Please be reminded, use of this bridge is restricted during peak traffic times and is open for user operation from 9:30am to 2:00pm and 6pm to 7:30am daily (no assistance required). Following the inspection of Bridge 9, Handcocks Swing Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, our specialist contractors have found a further issue which requires replacement parts. They will be back onsite tomorrow morning to replace these parts. Unfortunately, until this has been caried out, we are unable to further manually swing the bridge for passage. We ask all customers travelling to, and from, Liverpool to wait by the bridge and await further instruction. An update will be provided tomorrow afternoon, Friday 5 May. Our local team are now heading to Bridge 9, Handcocks Swing Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal to manually operate the bridge to allow for any waiting crafts to make passage until 12pm. Our specialist contractors will then be onsite to inspect the bridge and plan a method of repair. An update will be provided this afternoon following contractor attendance. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (5pm Wednesday 3 May 2023 until further notice) Please be advised navigation is currently closed at Bridge 9, Handcocks Swing Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal due to an operation fault resulting in unsafe operation. Specialist contractors have been informed and will be onsite tomorrow, Thursday 4 May, to locate the fault. We are currently working with our contractor to see if a manual swing is possible to allow customers to travel past the bridge. We ask all customers travelling to, and from, Liverpool to wait by the bridge and await further instruction. An update will be provided tomorrow, Thursday 4 May. Pump Out, Hazelmere Marina closed Pump Out is now up and running again. ADVICE (9am Tuesday 11 April 2023 until further notice) Please be advised that the Pump Out at Hazelmere is currently closed whilst repairs are being arranged. Updates to follow when available Starts At: Lock 43 Navigation is now open The lock is now closed until repairs have been carried out, but will be open as normal with no booking required once this is completed. We are hoping to have everything back up and running tomorrow but will update if anything changes. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (2.30pm Tuesday 2 May 2023 until further notice) Please be advised that due to a broken balance beam at Lock 44, the navigation has been closed between Lock 43 and Lock 44 on the Marsworth Flight. Updates to follow when available Lock 16 Oakmeadowford Lock ADVICE (3pm Tuesday 2 May 2023 until further notice) Please be aware that the warning sign at Oakmeadowford Lock has been removed / vandalised. Boaters using the Lock joining the River Churnet should exercise caution and check the height gauge at the bottom of the lock before progressing onto the River section. Cable Bridge, North of Lock 4 TOWPATH CLOSURE (3.30pm Tuesday 2 May until 4.30pm Friday 12 May 2023) Contractors on behalf of National Grid will be installing piled foundations. The towpath will need closing due to the proximity of machinery to the towpath and risk of noise exposure Lock 11, Gunthorpe Lock Repairs have been completed and Gunthorpe Lock is operational again. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (Thursday 4 May 2023) There will be a temporary stoppage at Gunthorpe Lock on Thursday 4th May, to carry our essential mechanical repairs. Boaters will not be able to operate the lock while this work takes place. We aim to have completed the works by 4pm, and will update the website accordingly. Talybont embankment NAVIGATION CLOSURE (1pm Thursday 4 May until 8am Saturday 6 May 2023) We are sorry to advise that a sink hole has developed in the road carriageway on the approach to Talybont lift bridge. We believe this to be the result of a leak from the canal in the bridge hole which requires urgent investigation. We therefore intend to reduce the water level in the section between bridges 143 (White Hart Bridge) and 146 (Chilson Bridge) in Talybont, to facilitate an inspection and temporary repair. We plan to install the stop planks on Thursday afternoon and expect work to be completed on Friday, with navigation restored for Saturday morning. Please note that the stoppage will restrict water flow through the canal and particularly impact the locks. Some boat passage through the lock flight at Llangynidr may be possible early on Thursday afternoon, however we strongly advise that you do not plan to travel through Llangynidr lock flight on Thursday or Friday. We kindly request that all boats currently moored between bridges 143 and 146 are moved before 11am on Thursday. Sanitary Station, Stonebridge Lock Pumpout Please be advised that this Pump Out is now back up and running ADVICE (3.45pm Tuesday 24 January 2023 until further notice) Due to a fault the Pumpout at Stonebridge Lock Sanitary Station has been rendered out of action.
