Bridge 136, Workhouse Bridge We are pleased to advise, the majority of the tree has been removed to allow boats to navigate through. Contractors will return to site tomorrow to remove the remainder of the tree. Further to the notice below, Contractors have been on site trying to clear the tree today but its taking longer than expected, we do not anticipate the navigation being open today. We will update this notice when the navigation is clear. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (5pm Monday 8 May 2023 until further notice) Please be advised that a large tree has fallen across the navigation by Bridge 136 and is impassable. Contractors attended site today to clear the towpath but need to come back tomorrow 09/05/2023 to clear the navigation. We will update this notice when the navigation is clear. Rothwell ADVICE (until 6pm Tuesday 9 May 2023) Contractors will be carrying out a bridge inspection involving the use of rope access. We anticipate no impacts to boating and navigation users on the waterway. Walkers and cyclists please be advised there may be a low impact when crossing the bridge whilst these works are carried out. Starts At: Bridge 53 Dimmingsdale Bridge Navigation is now open, but there will be a restriction. There will be floating pontoons in the canal. We kindly ask boaters to keep to the towpath side and proceed with caution. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (10.45am Saturday 6 May 2023 until further notice) Car damaged Dimmingsdale Road Bridge resulting in debris in canal there will be a further update on Tuesday 9th May “We understand that this closure may disrupt your schedule. We are taking every step to fix the problem as soon as possible and we will keep you updated of our progress.” Bridge 218, Moss Swing Bridge ADVICE (8am Friday 5 May 2023 until further notice) Moss Swing Bridge is a third party owned swing bridge replacing the old third party owned swing bridge at this location. The bridge is owned by Rodley Bridge Management Company with a 24hr number of 0800 0114 074 The bridge is manually operated via a gearing mechanism. It is important to follow the operating instructions displayed on site. Failure to follow the instructions and fully open the bridge, via the handwheels, may result in damage to your boat. South Towpath between Crankhall Lane Bridge and Friar Park Farm Bridge TOWPATH CLOSURE (7am Friday 5 May until 6pm Wednesday 31 May 2023) Due to excavation works being undertaken on the cutting between Crankhall Lane Bridge and Friar Park Farm Bridge by contractors working on behalf of Countryside, the southern towpath is closed for safety reasons until the cut and fill works are completed and the slope of the embankment is reprofiled and seeded. Please bear in mind that only the southern towpath is closed, with the northern towpath remaining opened. As part of these works a porta dam will also be installed on Tuesday 09/05/23 to install a drain in the tow path and to connect the drainage into the canal. The dam is expected to remain in place until 19/05/23. The navigation will remain opened but the dam will restrict the width of the navigation at its location. Signage and buoys will be utilised to manage pedestrians and canal traffic. We kindly advise towpath users and boaters to follow signage and directions given on site. Please take extra care when passing through this area. Lock 44A, Dukes Cut Lock STRONG STREAM RECEDED. ADVICE (4.30pm Thursday 4 May 2023 until further notice) Please be advised the pump out facility at Lancaster Services is currently out of use due to an issue with the card reader. We have informed our contractors and await their attendance. An update will be provided tomorrow, Friday 5 May. Line of conifers by Bypass Bridge 1 ADVICE (4.45pm Thursday 4 May 2023 until further notice) Located above the bypass bridge towards the basin, there are large conifer trees on the left hand side. We have noticed that one of the trees have cracked a bit. They are currently entwinned with each other. It appears to be stable and of a low risk, but we wished to advise boaters to slow down and to be cautious when passing the full length of conifers when travelling into the basin. The team will get contractors to attend after the weekend. Malkin’s Bank We are pleased to advise our local team have completed the repair to Lock 62, Pavilion Lock on the Trent & Mersey Canal and navigation has resumed. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (4.45pm Thursday 4 May 2023 until further notice) Please be advised navigation is currently closed at Lock 62, Pavilion Lock on the Trent & Mersey Canal due to an issue with the tailgate. Our local team have been informed and are on their way to site. An update will be provided tomorrow, Friday 5 May. Navigation closed at Winkwell Swing Bridge Navigation is now open NAVIGATION CLOSURE (9am Friday 5 May 2023 until further notice) Please be advised that the navigation is closed due to a fault at Winkwell Swing Bridge. Repairs are being arranged for this morning. Updates to follow when available Lapworth/ Kingswood Pump out The shower is now back open for use, thank you for your patience whilst we this got sorted. Despite various attempts our contractors have been unable to resolve the shower issue in the facility, there have been various issues causing it to still remain out of order. The pump out is now back available for use. Just leaving the shower as out of order, awaiting our contractors to resolve. The shower is currently out of order, we have reported this to our contractors so please bear with us whilst we get this issue resolved. The facilities are now back open with the exception of the Pump out. We are hoping this will be back open in the next few days, and will update the notice as soon as it is. The whole facility is now out of use due to further blockages on site. We apologise for the inconvenience this site is causing and we are trying to resolve the issues that keep arising. ADVICE (3pm Tuesday 10 January 2023 until further notice) We believe there is a blockage at the site of the Pump out so this will be out of use until the issue can be resolved. Starts At: Lock 54, Cadley Lock RESTRICTION (1pm Friday 5 May 2023 until further notice) Please be advised that we are experiencing low water levels on the Summit Pound between Lock 54 and Lock 55 due to continuing works to the pumping stations at Crofton and Caen Hill. We have received a report of a grounding on this section, so advise customers to be mindful of the risk and to navigate with caution and at low speed. We expect the situation to improve slowly with Caen Hill now temporarily back in service for the weekend. It would help to sustain the canal through this period if customers could share the locks with other craft and ensure all ground paddles (top gates) are fully closed when leaving the locks. Banana Warehouse, Fazeley Street Street, Birmingham ADVICE (8am Friday 5 May until 5pm Friday 30 June 2023) The navigation and towpath will remain open. Contractors Onsite will be installing a fabric dam and scaffolding to facilitate the inspection of the canal basin and the canopy/building on the offside of canal. Boaters will be allowed to pass causing minimal disruption to the canal network. Signage will be utilised to manage canal traffic, care should be taken whilst passing through this section.
