Sharpness 150 sets to make a splash

AN EVENT celebrating 150 years since the opening of Sharpness New Dock in 1874, launches on Saturday March 30 at Sharpness Sports and Social Club.

Sharpness 150 has been created to bring people from the community, surrounding areas and visitors together to participate in and enjoy exploring the past, present and future of Sharpness Dock and will continue throughout 2024.

Martyn Slater, from the organising team, said: “Sharpness 150 is an initiative aimed at uniting people as they discover not only the heritage of Sharpness New Dock, but also its influence on the area, its industries and, most importantly, the personal stories it has helped to shape.”

The launch event at the Sharpness Sports and Social Club, formerly the Dockers Club, at Sharpness Docks, Gloucestershire GL13 9UN, will run from 12noon to 5pm.

Admission is free; there will be guest speakers from 1.30pm and displays all afternoon. There will also be a chance to share your Sharpness stories for an oral history recording and to see the Waller stationary steam engine at work.

Family fun activities will include an Easter Egg Hunt and Treasure Hunt and there will be refreshments, a bar and free parking.
