HABITAT improvement works are underway on the River Wissey as part of a joint initiative led by Aquamaintain in partnership with Norfolk Rivers Trust.
The project aims to restore the river’s natural balance and enhance conditions for wildlife. Teams have been carrying out a range of in-channel enhancements alongside targeted vegetation management to support a healthier and more resilient ecosystem.
Key objectives include improving habitat diversity for fish and other aquatic species, increasing natural flow variation, and boosting oxygen levels within the water. Additional measures focus on introducing more natural features into the river and strengthening marginal habitats for insects, birds and amphibians.

Organisers say the initiative is designed to support the long-term health of the river corridor, with a strong emphasis on working with natural processes to build ecological resilience.
The work has also provided a visible demonstration of environmental stewardship in action, with teams undertaking restoration efforts on site under favourable conditions.
