New chair amid major expansion and building purchase plans

THE Boat Building Academy and Furniture School, in Lyme Regis, Dorset, has selected Janet Breeze as its chair of trustees.

The appointment comes as the academy embarks on an ambitious five-year plan to secure its future as the last remaining dedicated boat building school in the UK.

Janet, 64, is a consultant with broad experience of providing corporate responsibility and project advice to multinationals, NGOs, governments and international development agencies.

Having worked in Latin America, Europe, India and the Middle East, she has been based in Lyme Regis since 2020, becoming a trustee for the BBA in 2024 alongside volunteering for Turn Lyme Green, the Seaside Store and Community Speed Watch.

She said: “I am delighted and honoured to take on this role and look forward to building on the BBA’s success and collaborating with its trustees, staff and partners to fulfil its ambitious plans for the future.”

BBA director and trustee Will Reed said: “Janet is already an integral part of our governance and success, and I am extremely happy to pass the baton of this position on to her.

“Her breadth of knowledge and passion for the BBA will be invaluable as we prepare to purchase our building and in doing so secure the academy’s future.” The BBA’s highly respected 40-week boatbuilding course is a direct route into the UK’s leading boatyards. This year, it intends to begin the process of purchasing its current building on Monmouth Beach, in Lyme Regis, before beginning renovations.
