Update on 20/10/2021:

The new lateral restraint system has now been fitted at Town Swing Bridge on the Weaver Navigation. As planned, the highway closure on Sunday 17 October allowed us to complete the initial adjustment of the system and realignment of the bridge.

A further highway closure is planned for Sunday 24 October which will allow us to complete our final adjustments, subject to the results, following this Town Swing Bridge will be re-opened to larger vessels and fully operational.

Until then, navigation remains closed to vessels with an air draught greater than 7ft 6ins / 2.3m.

A further update will be provided Monday 25 October.

Update on 08/10/2021:

Repairs to Town Swing Bridge on the Weaver Navigation continue and we are currently onsite fitting the lateral restraint rails and rollers below the bridge. Works to grit blast and repaint the affected areas of the bridge are complete, and we are now removing the seized existing bolts to allow for the installation of the rail.

The first bridge swing is being planned for 17 October to allow us to finalise the position of the rails and rollers.  To be able to carry out this swing, we will need to cut back the concrete abutment to free up the bridge.  This will be undertaken using a road closure.  Further road closures are planned for 24 October and 7 November to continue these works and hopefully complete the installation.

Navigation remains closed to vessels with an air draught greater than 7ft 6ins / 2.3m.

A further update on progress made will be provided Wednesday 20 October.
