Acton Swing Bridge

Update on 14/09/2023:

We are pleased to advise the operating fault has now been resolved at Acton Swing Bridge on the Weaver Navigation and navigation has resumed for all boats.

Please be advised navigation remains restricted to boats with an air draught no greater than 7ft 6ins / 2.3m at Acton Swing Bridge on the Weaver Navigation due to a mechanical failure preventing the bridge from being safely operated.

Please note if your boat dimensions are suitable for a passage through Anderton Boat Lift, these restrictions do not apply.

Following the repair work to the edging strip of the bridge this week, our teams and specialist contractors will be conducting rigorous tests of the bridge from Monday 11 September and throughout next week.

A further update will be provided by Friday 15 September, or as soon as an update can be provided.

Update on 25/08/2023:

Please be advised navigation remains restricted to boats with an air draught no greater than 7ft 6ins / 2.3m at Acton Swing Bridge on the Weaver Navigation due to a mechanical failure preventing the bridge from being safely operated.

Our specialist contractors are due on site week commencing Monday 4 September to undertake work on the edging strip of the bridge.

We continue to investigate the cause of the problem and identify remedial work which we hope will alleviate the problems.

Please note if your boat dimensions are suitable for a passage through Anderton Boat Lift, these restrictions do not apply.

Update on 14/07/2023:

Please be advised navigation remains restricted to boats with an air draught no greater than 7ft 6ins / 2.3m at Acton Swing Bridge on the Weaver Navigation due to a mechanical failure preventing the bridge from being safely operated.

We continue to investigate the cause of the problem and identify remedial work which we hope will alleviate the problems.

Discussions are ongoing with Cheshire West & Chester Council to establish a suitable date for a road closure which will allow us facilitate work to the bridge caissons and to conduct test swings, we’re hopeful this will commence in early August.

Update on 30/06/2023:

Please be advised navigation remains restricted to boats with an air draught no greater than 7ft 6ins / 2.3m at Acton Swing Bridge on the Weaver Navigation due to a mechanical failure preventing the bridge from being safely operated.

We continue to investigate the cause of the problem and identify remedial work which we hope will alleviate the problems, however, our Engineering team require further discussions to establish a suitable plan and date for a test trial swing.

Update on 21/06/2023:

A method of repair is now being created whilst we work with our contractors to arrange availability.

Update on 14/06/2023:

Our engineers have had an initial site meeting and are meeting further with our contractors early next week to discuss a method of repair.
