Lock 3, Kings Road Lock
Update on 10/06/2021:
The damaged upper lock gate has been secured.
The lock is now partially operational via the lock side pedestals for use by boaters with narrowboats up to a maximum width of 2.9m.
Please note the upper offside (opposite side to lock building) lock gate will not operate.
Please take care and exercise caution when entering and leaving the lock at top gates to avoid brushing against or connecting with the stationary gate that is secured in the closed position.
A further solution is being devised to allow assisted boat passage for craft wider than 2.9m.
In parallel work is taking place to facilitate a permanent repair.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.
This notice will be updated when there is further news to report.
NAVIGATION CLOSURE (10.45am Wednesday 9 June 2021 until further notice)
Inspection this morning has identified a possible structural failure to one of the collar fixing securing a lock gate to the bank.
Our engineering team has been alerted and a more thorough inspection will take place to determine what the issue is and determine any necessary repairs that may be required.
Until this has been completed the lock will remain closed for boat use and operation. It is not possible at this time to say how long the lock may remain closed.
