We’re pleased to advise the tree has now been cleared. Navigation and the towpath are back open again.

The team are making good progress; the tree has been delimbed so there is now just the trunk left. We’re on track to have navigation open by the end of the day.

Update on 15/11/2023:
We have a team attending site tomorrow morning to start work to remove the tree. We’re hoping the tree will be cleared and navigation open by the end of the day, however we should have a clearer idea of how long it will take by mid-afternoon. The towpath will need to remain closed for longer.

Update on 13/11/2023:
Our contractors are trying to get a work boat, but it’s likely to be Wednesday before they can get this out to site.
We should therefore be able to provide an update on Wednesday 15th November by 4pm.
Update on 10/11/2023:
Contractors have been out again to site today. Due to its location in a rural cutting, it is trickier than anticipated to get access with plant to safely remove the tree.
The tree will require a work boat, which we are trying to mobilise for early next week.
As soon as we receive a confirmed plan and timeframe from contractors, we will update the notice.
Update on 09/11/2023:
Unfortunately contractors were unable to clear the tree this afternoon as it is a bigger job than anticipated. They will be back on site first thing tomorrow to assess how they can remove the tree safely.

Contractors are required to clear the tree and we have raised an urgent job with them. We hope they will have the tree cleared by the end of the day.
We’ll update the notice as soon as we have further information.
NAVIGATION CLOSURE (10am Thursday 9 November 2023 until further notice)
A tree has fallen 200m from Bridge 8 on the Shropshire Union Canal, blocking the navigation and towpath.
Our Operations team are going out to assess it. We will post further updates as soon as we receive them.
