Update on 20/06/2022:
We are pleased to advise we have normalised the water levels on the Summit Lock Flight, Lock 36 to Lock 45, on the Rochdale Canal and navigation has resumed.
To reduce the risk of further vandalism, Lock 36 to Lock 45 will be open as per the following opening times:
- 8am till 4pm, daily
Padlocks will be placed on the above locks outside of these hours.
You can help us conserve water by:
- Ensuring paddles are fully closed once they have passed through a lock.
- Aiming for minimal contact when navigating through locks by ensuring gates are fully open as they pass through. Pushing gates open using a boat can damage the gate lining, increasing its leakage.
NAVIGATION CLOSURE (9am Tuesday 14 June 2022 until further notice)
Update on 16/06/2022:
Please be advised navigation remains closed on the Summit Lock Flight, Lock 36 to Lock 45, on the Rochdale Canal due to low water from vandalism experienced earlier this week.
Whilst the Summit level is recovering, we have 2 empty pounds below which we will need to replenish before navigation is possible. This will take a minimum of 2 days.
Our teams will continue to manage the limited water supply to support the rise in water levels and a further update will be provided Monday 20 June.
Please be reminded, once navigation has resumed, to reduce the risk of further vandalism, the following opening times will be applied:
- Lock 36 to Lock 45 will be open from 8am till 4pm daily
Please be advised navigation is closed on the Summit, Lock 36 to Lock 45, on the Rochdale Canal due to repeated vandalism which has resulted in low water levels along the flight.
To allow the water levels to recuperate, navigation will remain closed, and padlocks will be placed on Lock 36 and Lock 45.
Due to the vandalism happening late at night, once navigation has resumed, we will be implementing the following opening times:

The above locks will be padlocked closed outside of these hours to minimise the risk of further misuse
