We are pleased to advise the repair work to Lock 37 is now complete, a new headgate seal has been installed along with a repair to the cills and paddle.

Our teams are now beginning repairs to the headgate and cills of Lock 36.

We’re hopeful that the dams will be removed Friday 29 October. Following this our water management team will reassess and monitor the water levels over that weekend.

A further update will be provided Monday 1 November.

Update on 15/10/2021:

Please be advised navigation remains closed between Lock 36 and Lock 37 on the Rochdale Canal due to having our third-party water feed reduced which caused water resource issues.

Whilst the water levels are low our local teams have taken the opportunity to conduct water retention work and improved the headgate seals of both Lock 36 and Lock 37 to prevent water loss and leakage going forward.

Additional work is planned for week commencing Monday 18 October, dams will be installed between Lock 36 and Lock 37 whilst our local team facilitate repairs to both lock gate cills and a repair to a leaking paddle of Lock 37 which will improve water retention.

A further update will be provided Friday 22 October.

Update on 11/10/2021:

Please be advised navigation remains closed between Lock 36 and Lock 37 on the Rochdale Canal due to water resource issues.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (1.30pm Saturday 9 October 2021 until further notice)

Due to a paddle being left open, the summit canal level has dropped to a level which we cannot operate until levels recover.

The levels will be monitored over the weekend and an update will be issued on Monday morning.
