Start date: August 4, 2021

Est. end if know: October 4, 2021

Stoppages & Restrictions

Starts At: Lock 36
Ends At: Lock 37, West Summit

RESTRICTION (1pm Wednesday 4 August 2021 until further notice)

Please be advised the following opening times will be implemented between Lock 36 and Lock 37, West Summit on the Rochdale Canal to oversee safe use of the locks and to reduce the risk of vandalism:
• 8am – 4pm Daily
The above locks will be padlocked closed outside of these times, and the local team will be attending regularly to ensure the water levels are maintained.
It is not clear how long the restrictions will be in place, however if there is no significant, sustained rainfall it is likely further restrictions will be implemented. While the restrictions will restrict the use of the canal by boats, the towpath will remain open for visitors and the local community alike to enjoy.
In the meantime, boaters can help conserve water by;
Sharing locks where possible and making the best use of the water available.
Ensuring paddles are fully closed once they’ve passed through a lock.
Aiming for minimal contact when navigating through locks by ensuring gates are fully open as they pass through. Pushing gates open using a boat can damage the gate lining, increasing its leakage.
