Stoppages & Restrictions

ADVICE (Tuesday 8 September 2020 until further notice)

Floating Pennywort (Hydrocotyle ranunculoides) has been found on the
River Nene between Islip and Fortheringhay, and in the Orton area of
Peterborough.
This is a highly invasive plant species with the potential to severely
interrupt navigation and recreation. We have instructed a contractor to
survey the river and control any floating pennywort discovered by
physical removal and herbicide application.
Please help us by reporting any sightings to our Incident Hotline 0800 80
70 60, giving a GPS reading if possible. Do not attempt to remove the
plant yourself as it is very brittle and even small offshoots can quickly re-
establish themselves. In the right conditions this plant can double its wet
weight in a week.
