Culvert, Aqueduct 7

ADVICE (8am Thursday 29 June until Friday 6pm 29 September 2023)

Please be advised that essential repair works are to be carried out to Aqueduct 7,  Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal.

The Aqueduct is located within the village of Llangattock and carries the canal over the Nant Onneu (a tributary to the River Usk).

The Aqueduct is approximately 130m north of Bridge 115 and Lime Kilns car park.

The Aqueduct co-ordinates are E320609; N217374.

The repair works will involve infilling voids within the bed of the Nant Onneu with large boulders on the east side of the aqueduct and repairing brickwork of the aqueduct barrel.

The repairs are due to commence on Thursday 29th June and are expected to be completed by Friday 29th September.

As the works will take place within the Nant Onneu, the canal will remain open to navigation.

There will however be increased boat movement between the Lime Kilns car park (where the contractor will be setting up a compound) and the aqueduct as materials will be moved by barge.

The towpath will remain open during the works, however there may be times when pedestrians will be held up for a short duration whilst materials are being loaded/unloaded to/from the barges.

The Lime Kilns car park will be closed during the duration of the works as this will be used for the contractor’s compound.

The customer services building (toilets and showers) will still be available to boaters whilst the works are taking place.

The visitor moorings and water tap immediately north of Bridge 115 will also be closed during the works.  Visitor moorings and water facilities are available south of Bridge 115.
