Aylestone Mill Lock to St Mary’s Mill Lock
Intersection of: Lock 39 – Aylestone Mill Lock to Lock 40 – St Mary’s Mill Lock on Leicester Line (Grand Union Canal) and Lock 45 – Birstall Lock to Lock 45 – Birstall Lock on River Soar
Update on 22/09/2021:
Divers are currently on site at St. Mary’s Mill Lock fixing the new paddle frame and runners.
The navigation is now closed. There is no passage between St. Mary’s Lock to Birstall Lock.
We aim to have the navigation fully open by the end of the day on Friday and will update the website as soon as passage is possible.
NAVIGATION CLOSURE (5pm Wednesday 22 September until Friday 24 September 2021)
Update on 20/09/2021:
We now have a timeline for the planned works at St Mary’s Mill Lock.
- On Wednesday the 22 September, the divers will fix the new paddle frame and runners at St. Mary’s Lock.
On Thursday the 23 September, the divers will be back at St. Mary’s again to tighten the nuts of the threaded bar. The work boat will then travel from St. Mary’s Lock to Birstall Lock, which will take around 2 hours. The divers will dive at Birstall on the afternoon of the 23rd to fix the new paddle post.
On Friday, the 24 September, the divers will be back at Birstall to tighten the nuts of the threaded bar and inspect the offside paddle.
There will be no passage through these locks while this work is taking place between the 22nd and 24th September.
We aim to have the navigation fully open by the end of the day on Friday and will update the website accordingly.
