Stoppages & Restrictions

Starts At: Lock 3 East (See Text)
Ends At: Lock 1 East, Stanley Dawson Lock

Update on 11/10/2023:

We are only be able to provide booked passage on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is due to the manpower needed to remove and reinsert the stop planks before and after passage.

We have updated the booking facility to allow only Tuesday and Thursday bookings through October and November.

Update on 25/09/2023:

Due to the insertion of the stop planks needed at the section of Lock 1e and Lock 3e and the number of operatives needed to remove and reinsert them before and after every passage – we are unable to provide passage on Saturday and Sunday.

We have updated the booking facility to reflect this.

Update on 21/09/2023:

The low water levels have improved due to the insertion of stop planks.

It will continue to be locked up  between Lock 3 east and Lock 1 east  is only accessible with the booked passage system.

We can only accommodate bookings of 48 hours notice as stop planks have been inserted to contain the water levels and these need to be removed before and re-inserted after every boat passage, so unfortunately we are unable to be flexible with boat passage bookings. This takes a minimum of 2 members of staff to man the passage and we need  the 48 hour notice to ensure that we are able to have the 2 members of the team to undertake this.

The stop planks will be present until November, when we hope to have further works carried out on the lock.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (11am Sunday 17 September 2023 until further notice)

Due to low water levels in pound 1 we have had to close the navigation between Lock 3 East and Lock 1 East on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.

This section has been chained up and is now not in use. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

The navigation will be open as soon as all the pounds recover.
