Reopened – Pedestrian bridge at Lock 41 east – no access permitted
Lock 41 East

Update on 18/08/2023:

A new pedestrian footbridge has been made and inserted.

The pedestrian footbridge across the locks is new and safe to access the other side for lock operation and is open for use.

ADVICE (1.15pm Friday 14 July 2023 until further notice)

The pedestrian bridge at Lock 41 east is broken and not safe to cross over.

We have taped the bridge up to show no access is allowed.

The lock needs to be operated from both sides.

To access the non towpath side of the lock, skippers and/or crew members will need to walk up the towpath to Lock 42e and exit out of the cobbled towpath, crossing over the bridge to the left, walking through the entrance to the carpark, passing the National Trust Marsden Moor Information Centre and taking the path in the wooded area that is to the right. Walking down the slope, the lock 41e non towpath side will become apparent.

We believe the bridge may need to be rebuilt as the fixtures and the bridge are quite old.

We will update the notice when further information is received.
