Update on 11/06/2021:

Third party owned building, Brunswick Mill, have requested a further week to complete the building work and remove the scaffolding.

An update on progress will be provided by Friday 18 June.

Update on 04/06/2021:

Third party owned building, Brunswick Mill, require an additional week to repair the building and make it safe for the towpath to reopen. Due to Listed Building requirements, the third party had to carry out extensive works to the parapet to make it safe.

Until works are complete, the towpath remains closed between Bridge 5, Beswick Street Bridge and Bridge 7a, Joe Mercer Way on the Ashton Canal.

 

Update on 28/05/2021:

Works to the third party owned building Brunswick Mill remain ongoing, with defects being rebuilt in a way that preserves the listed building in its original state.

Our works inspector will also visit site next week to review the situation.

The towpath remains closed between Bridge 5, Beswick Street Bridge and Bridge 7a, Joe Mercer Way on the Ashton Canal.

 

Update on 19/04/2021:

The loose masonry and lintels have been removed from the third party owned building by their structural engineers. Further contractors are scheduled to re-construct the parapet and window reveals in the affected area. Until these works are complete, the towpath will remain closed between Bridge 5, Beswick Street Bridge and Bridge 7a, Joe Mercer Way on the Ashton Canal.

 

Update on 13/04/2021:

A full assessment has been carried out to the third party owned building by their structural engineers.

Works have commenced to the 7th floor at Brunswick Mill. Whilst the works are ongoing, the towpath will remain closed between Bridge 5, Beswick Street Bridge and Bridge 7a, Joe Mercer Way on the Ashton Canal.

 

TOWPATH CLOSURE (until further notice)

Please be advised following a recent inspection by a structural engineer, Brunswick Mill, a third party owned building, has been found to be unsafe. As a result of this, to protect members of the public, the towpath will be closed to all users between Bridge 5, Beswick Street Bridge and Bridge 7a, Joe Mercer Way on the Ashton Canal.
Whilst the canal will remain open to navigation at this point, we advise boaters to stay towards the offside of the canal when passing and politely request all customers to approach the area with caution and to listen to any advice that may be given by the contractors onsite
In anticipation to some changes that may be made, we ask that customers check our website regularly for new updates.
Signage displaying a diversion route will be in place.
