Easter regatta focus on fight against licence fee rises

THE National Bargee Travellers Association is bringing together boaters from around the country on Saturday March 30 for an Easter regatta.

As well as celebrating the boating community they will be making a stance against the increase in Canal & River Trust licence fees and differential pricing based on mooring status.

Supporters, whether arriving by boat, bike, bus or on foot, are invited to join the event from midday at the canalside exit of Paddington Station near the bookable moorings (W2 1HB).

There will be a unity march to CRT’s Little Venice offices, speeches from boater activists, craft stalls, boat traders, a raffle and live music.

A NBTA spokesperson said: “We want to turn it into a celebration of our community and show that it’s boaters who are the real lifeblood of the canal system.

“The event is open to all, whether you’re a boater, a supporter or just someone interested in finding out more about our community and our campaign.”
