Residents are invited to a relaxed event celebrating shared local history at Llanymynech Village Hall on Saturday, May 9 from 2pm to 4pm.
The two-hour gathering will bring together archivists from Powys and Shropshire Councils, staff from the Canal & River Trust’s Montgomery Canal Restoration Project, local heritage enthusiasts, and volunteers from dementia care and wellbeing organisations. The aim is to help residents explore, understand, and care for family memorabilia while uncovering stories that connect personal collections to the wider history of the area.
Attendees are encouraged to bring along family photographs, letters, documents, or small artefacts. Experts will be on hand to offer practical advice on preservation, explain the historical significance of items, and discuss options for archiving valuable materials.
The afternoon programme will feature four short talks, each lasting about 20 minutes, followed by informal question and answer sessions and hands on guidance. Live music will be provided by local musician Sal Tonge.
