Work has been completed and lights are now working as normal. 

Update on 31/05/2023:

Work continues to the column lights at Holme Lock, on the River Trent. 

There will be no lighting at the site tonight.  

Work will commence in the morning to rectify this issue and then we will update the website tomorrow afternoon.

Please follow advice from Trust representatives on site.

The lights at the lock site will be intermittent while this work takes place. Work will commence on the 30th May.

Wormingford Mill Upstream Canoe Portage

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (Tuesday 23 May 2023 until rescinded)

Please be advised, as a result of an inspection the above canoe portage
is currently closed to the public for health and safety reasons.
We will rescind this notice once the works have been carried out.

Upper Wellingborough Lock

ADVICE (Wednesday 24 May 2023)

Please be aware that river levels will be slightly lowered for the morning to allow maintenance to take place. They should gradually return to normal levels during the afternoon.
Please navigate with care as levels may be lower than usual during this period.

Pump Out, Lancaster Customer Services

Update on 26/05/2023:

We are pleased to advise the Pump Out has been repaired and is now back in use at Lancaster Customer Service Facilities.

ADVICE (10am Wednesday 24 May 2023 until further notice)

Please be advised the Pump Out station at Lancaster Customer Service Facilities is currently out of use due to fault with the pump system.

Contractors have been informed and we anticipate their attendance Friday 26 May.

An update will be provided Friday 26 May.

Update on 23/05/2023:

Contractors are making good progress clearing the tree. The have advised navigation should be open again by 6pm.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (10.30am Tuesday 23 May 2023 until further notice)

A tree has fallen at Bridge 29 on the Shropshire Union Canal, blocking navigation.

Our contractors have been contacted and will be on site to remove the tree as soon as possible.

We will provide another update as soon as we receive further information.

Lock 11, Gunthorpe Lock

Update on 24/05/2023:

Work has been completed ahead of schedule and boaters can now proceed as normal.

RESTRICTION (Wednesday 24 May 2023 until 2pm)

Essential mechanical repairs are required at Gunthorpe Lock on the 24th May.  

Boats can expect delays of up to an hour while these works take place.  

Please follow advice from our maintenance team on site, who will assist boats through the lock, as and when it is safe for them to do so.

They aim to complete the work by 2pm and we will update the website accordingly.

BOOKING INFORMATION (7.30-9am Wednesday 24 May 2023)

Blisworth tunnel will be closed to traffic from 07:30, possibly until 09:00 on Wednesday 24th May for the passage of a widebeam boat travelling from Blisworth to Stoke Bruerne. 

Boats may enter the tunnel if directed to do so by a Trust representative at the tunnel portal or after 08:00 if no representative is present. 

Subsidence on the towpath

TOWPATH CLOSURE (Monday 22 May 2023 until further notice)

A towpath closure has been put in place for this area of the canal. This is due to subsidence in the ground causing a hole to appear in the surface. We are expecting an engineer tomorrow morning to inspect this and we will update all accordingly. The Towpath is closed but the navigation remains open for all boating traffic.

Lock 30, Grants Lock

Update on 25/05/2023:

Navigation is now open

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (10am-2pm Thursday 25 May 2023)

A repair is needed on the faulty towpath ground paddle at Lock 30 Grants, we will be installing stop planks to assess the problem and clear if possible under the 4 hour Navigation restriction

Lock 1, Camp Hill Top Lock (Lock 52)

ADVICE (7.30 am Saturday 20 May until 5pm Saturday 3 June 2023)

Contractors will be installing a porta dam to allow the inspection of Bowyer Street Feeder, a critical asset that feeds the 10-mile pound of the Grand Union Canal above Camp Hill Top Lock

The porta dam will be installed to dewater the outfall of the feeder at the basin next to Sampson Road Wharf, Canal & River Trust Service point. It will not affect the navigation through the lock.

Signage will be utilised to warn boaters of the works. We kindly remind customers to follow signage and directions given on site.

Lock 72, Cobblers Lock

Update on 19/05/2023:

Further to the notice below, Cobblers Lock has been inspected by our engineers and is now open.

We are resending this alert as there was a technical error.

Please see the below update from the 16th May.

Update on 15/05/2023:

Further to the notice below, we are sorry to advise that initial repairs have indicated an additional problem with Cobblers Lock.

Engineers are carrying out further inspections and we will update this notice on Tuesday 16th May when we have more information.

Update on 11/05/2023:

Please be advised that further to the notice below, engineers have now carried out an inspection of the gate.

This has unfortunately identified significant damage.

As a result of this it is not possible to reopen the lock until this is repaired.  

The lock is scheduled for repair on Monday the 15^th May.

We will update this notice on the 15^th May once the repairs have been undertaken.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (3.30am Wednesday 10 May 2023 until further notice)

We are sorry to advise that the downstream lock gate at Cobblers lock has sustained damage.

Unfortunately, this means that the lock is currently inoperable.

Our engineers are currently assessing the damage and repair strategy.

We will update this notice with further information on Thursday afternoon the 11^th May.
