The men’s toilet is now fixed.

The mens toilet is currently out of use, due to a faulty flush mechanism.

Update on 30/06/2023:

Works on this section are still due to be complete on Friday 7th July.

Contractors will also commence work from Winson Green Bridge to Rabone Lane Bridge from Monday, 03/07/23 to 18/08/23, the notice for this can be found here.

Works will then commence on Rabone Lane Bridge to Main Line Turnover Bridge from 14/08/23 to 01/09/23, the notice for this can be found here.

Update on 07/06/2023:

Contractors have had to extend this closure date for this section by a week, making the end date Friday 7th July.

TOWPATH CLOSURE (until 5pm Friday 30 June 2023)

Unfortunately contractors had to close this section on Monday 29th May in order to remain on track with the original end date, which remains Friday 30th June.

The towpath from St Vincent Street to Rotten Park Street remains closed until the week commencing 05/06/23. Updates for this section will be posted here:

Update on 18/09/2023:

We are pleased to advise the water point at Bridge 1, Junction Bridge on the Rufford Branch has been repaired and is back in operation.

Please be advised the water point at Bridge 1, Junction Bridge on the Rufford Branch remains out of use.

Unfortunately, our contractors are still waiting on the replacement parts required.

An update will be provided by Friday 9 June.

Contractors have attended and are awaiting parts, to complete the works.

Please be aware the bottom paddle gear at Salmons Lane Lock has come loose.

Navigation is still possible but may take slightly longer. Our team will be in attendance to handle remedial works.

Trees blocking the navigation between Boroughbridge SS and Milby Lock

Update on 01/06/2023:

The trees have all been removed by the contractors and the navigation is clear for passage.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (3pm Tuesday 30 May 2023 until further notice)

There are 4 – 5 large trees that have come down across the navigation.

We are hoping to have contractors our to remove the trees but we are aware that specialist equipment will be needed.

We will update the notice when the trees have been removed.

Pedestal failure
Long Sandall Lock

Update on 31/05/2023:

Contractors have attended  and the downstream pedestal has been repaired and the lock is now open.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (4pm Tuesday 30 May 2023 until further notice)

A fault has developed on the down stream pedestal, self operation through the lock is not possible.

The notice will be updated when contractors have attended site.

Update on 30/05/2023:

 Water levels are still recovering but very slowly.There has been no significant change but we will update the notice  further at 2pm to see if the stoppage can be lifted

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (4pm Monday 29 May until 12noon Tuesday 30 May 2023)

To allow water levels to recover on this stretch of canal, we are placing a stoppage between locks 12 and 14.

This will be reviewed on 30 May.

A large tree has fallen across the canal from the offside, blocking navigation. 

Tree removal is currently being organised and update to be provided when tree has been removed.

Engineers Bridge – Bedford

Update on 01/06/2023:

The fencing thrown into the river at Engineers Bridge Bedford has been removed therefore our navigation advisory notice issued on 31 May 2023 is now rescinded.

Update on 31/05/2023:

Further to our reported obstruction advisory notice issued on 30 May 2023, the fencing disgarded in the river has been located just under the surface of the river near to Engineers Bridge in Bedford.
We will look into removing this fencing as soon as we can at which point this navigation advisory notice will be rescinded in the meantime if navigating in this area to please proceed with caution.

OBSTRUCTION ADVICE (Tuesday 30 May 2023 until rescinded)

We have received a report of industrial type fencing being thrown into the river on the embankment side of Bedford Lock which is now mostly submerged.
We will investigate this report as soon as it is practical to do so but boaters are requested in the meantime if navigating in this area to please proceed with caution.

Lock 52, Heathy Close Lock

Update on 30/05/2023:

Further to the notice below, we are pleased to confirm that the navigation is now open.

However, Lock 52 Heathy Lock remains navigable for narrow beam vessels only.

We have cleared the blockage of the gate towpath side, but the offside bottom gate remains blocked and inoperable.

Please ensure this lock is left empty. We will update this notice by Thursday 1st June.

Update on 29/05/2023:

Further to the previous notice, please be advised that unfortunately the operations team were unable to carry out a repair to Lock 52 (Heathy Lock). Further investigation is required by the engineering team who will be in attendance on Tuesday 30^th May. This will also result in the flight of locks from Lock 51 (Wootton Rivers Lock) through to Lock 60 (Crofton Lock) being closed until a suitable repair is carried out.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (6.45pm Sunday 28 May 2023 until further notice)

Please be advised that due to an obstruction in the bottom gates of Lock 52 (Heathy close), the lock is currently closed to navigation.  Our operational staff will be on site on the morning of Monday 29^th May to assess and plan the removal of the obstruction. An update will follow when the team are aware of an opening time.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (9pm Saturday 27 May 2023 until further notice)

Due to a mechanical failure at Winkwell Swingbridge, navigation is currently closed. 

An engineer has been notified and will be attending site tomorrow morning 28/05/23 to rectify the issue and reopen navigation. 

Foxton Top Car Park Toilet Block

Update on 30/05/2023:

The leaking urinal has now been fixed and the gents facility is now open as normal.

ADVICE (4pm Friday 26 May 2023 until further notice)

The gents facility at the top car park is currently closed due to a leaking urinal.

We expect to have this repaired within the next 24 hours.
