Update on 20/06/2023:

Most of the tree has been cleared, which means both the towpath and navigation are now accessible.  

Please proceed with care and follow any advice on site. 

Contractors will remove the remainder of the tree tomorrow and we will update the website accordingly. 

RESTRICTION (10am Monday 19 June 2023 until further notice)

A fallen tree is blocking the towpath and the navigation near to Bridge 55 in the area of Foxton on the Leicester Arm of the GU Canal.

Our operations team have been made aware and are arranging for contractors to attend. It is estimated that the tree will be cleared by the end of tomorrow.

We will post an update on this as soon as we receive one from the team.

ADVICE (Monday 19 June until 5pm Tuesday 3 October 2023)

Please be advised third-party contractors will be onsite between Bridge 188A and Bridge 188 on the Trent & Mersey Canal to replace cladding on buildings at the Inovyn works, on the offside of the canal at Rudheath.

A temporary high-level scaffold will be in place, which will be overhanging the canal, but clearance will not be affected.

Warning signage will be in place. Whilst both the towpath and navigation will remain open, we politely request all customers to approach the area with caution and listen to any advice that may be given by the third-party contractors on site.

Lincoln Moorings (Female) – CSF

Update on 29/06/2023:

Our contractors have been on site today and removed 3 x plastic caps off cassette toilets, which were blocking the pipework. 

The Elsan is now working again, but we kindly advise our customers to be more mindful when using this facility.  

Resolving issues caused by inappropriate use is an unnecessary expense and inconveniences to other customers. 

Update on 26/06/2023:

Our contractors continue to deal with the issues at Lincoln Elsan.    

We will update the website on Wednesday 28th June with more information.

Unfortunately, the site will remain deadlocked until this matter is resolved.

Our contractors continue to deal with the issues at Lincoln Elsan.

Update on 22/06/2023:

Our contractors have attended site and the Elsan at Lincoln has been blocked due to a cap from a cassette falling into the Elsan point and getting stuck in the U-Bend.

Contractors will be carrying out works to dismantle the pipework and remove this blockage. 

We will update the website on the 23rd June with more information.

Unfortunately, the site will remain deadlocked until this matter is resolved.

The Elsan at Lincoln has been blocked again.

Contractors are attending site on an urgent job to unblock, clean and establish the cause.

Contractors attended site over the weekend and the Elsan is no longer blocked. 

Boaters can access the facility as normal.

The Elsan at Lincoln is once again blocked, which means we have had to deadlock the site.  

Contractors have been called out on an urgent job and we will update the website on Monday 19th June.  

Update on 14/06/2023:

Today, our contractors have visited the site, and the Elsan is now functioning normally. The problem with the drains was identified as a blockage, resulting from the disposal of inappropriate items in the Elsan.

We kindly request that users of our Elsan facility refrain from using them to dispose of items such as wet wipes, nappies, cloth and sanitary products.  Resolving issues caused by inappropriate use is an unnecessary expense and inconveniences other customers. 

Update on 08/06/2023:

The Elsan is still out of action, as there is an issue with the drains.  

Contractors have attended site, but further work is still required.

The Elsan has been deadlocked, until this matter is resolved.  

We will update the website tomorrow, once we have more information.

Due to flash flooding in the Leicester area, we have had to close the navigation between Birstall Lock and Kings Lock.  

Boaters are asked not to travel along this section until the water levels have come back down.

Update on 19/06/2023:

North Yorkshire Council, have now advised the bridge is operational.

The Navigation is now Open. 


RESTRICTION (until further notice)

North Yorkshire County Council have advised that Cawood Bridge has developed a fault and is unable to swing.

Skippers should contact the bridge operators if a swing is required.

Update on 22/06/2023:

This section of the navigation was re-opened yesterday as water levels returned to safe levels.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (2pm Tuesday 20 June 2023 until further notice)

We have had to close this section of the canal due to flooding in the canalised section of the River Salwarpe.

We will review the situation and open the canal as soon as it is safe to do so.
