Upstream and Downstream Canoe Portage, Godmanchester Lock

Please be aware the above canoe portage points are currently out of use due to recent damage and missing boards. The portage’s are closed until replacment structures can be installed and this notice has been rescinded.

Please be aware the downstream canoe platform is currently damaged, so we advise you against using this until a repair has taken place.

Gunthorpe Lock – CSF

Update on 07/08/2023:

Repairs have been carried out and Gunthorpe CSF is now open again. 

Update on 28/07/2023:

Further repairs are still required at Gunthorpe CSF, which unfortunately means the site will remain deadlocked over the weekend. 

We will update the website on Monday 31st July, with further information. 

ADVICE (Tuesday 25 July 2023 until further notice)

Due to vandalism to both sets of toilets, we have had to temporarily deadlock the facilities at Gunthorpe Lock.

Work has been planned in with both our contractors and volunteers to carry out the required repairs and we will update our website by the 28th July with further information. 

White Mills Lock

Update on 26/07/2023:

Tree removal has taken place, therefore, the navigation notice issued 12 July 2023 for a fallen tree at White Mills Lock has now been rescinded.

ADVICE (Wednesday 26 July 2023)

Please be aware that contractors will be on site on 26 July 2023 removing the fallen tree approximately 300 metres downstream of the lock.
Please heed any instructions or signage provided by the contractors on site and navigation with caution whilst in this area.

Lock 17 – low water due to paddles not closed properly

Update on 27/07/2023:

The water levels have recovered sufficiently overnight and we have reopened Lock 17.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (8.45am Wednesday 26 July 2023 until further notice)

There are low water levels at Lock 17 due to a paddle closed incorrectly.

We will close the navigation between Lock 17 and Lock 18 to allow the water levels in this section to replenish

The local team will work on filling this section and will reassess the water levels this afternoon.

We will update the notice when the water levels have recovered.

The repairs have been carried out and the navigation is now back open.

Update on 04/08/2023:

The required repairs at Stanton Lock has been completed and boaters can now proceed as normal.

Update on 26/07/2023:

Our local team has been unable to clear the obstruction and further assistance is required, which has been planned in.  

There is a persistent leak on the bottom lock gates and plans are also scheduled with our partner group to repair this.  

In the meantime, boaters can still operate the lock but we kindly request that the lock is left empty with the top gates fully sealed and paddles closed.  This will prevent water draining through the bottom gates.

Temporary notices will be placed on the gates to instruct this.  The pound will be topped up for navigation, but water levels may remain low until Friday due to by-wash water recovery.  Please proceed with care.  

We will update the website by the 4th August or as soon as we have more information.

Stanton Lock is temporarily closed while our team attends to remove an obstruction that’s currently preventing its operation.  

Sluice starts have snapped – non operational
Milby Lock (Lock 3)

Update on 28/07/2023:

The repairs have now been completed and lock is open.

Update on 27/07/2023:

The team have been able to access Milby Lock and repairs to the sluice shall be undertaken today.

The notice will be updated with the outcome of the repairs.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (11.45am Wednesday 26 July 2023 until further notice)

The sluice starts at Milby Lock have snapped, causing Milby Lock to be non operational.

Repairs will be carried out after the removal of the tree at Bridge 8, Boroughbridge Roundabout as the team will then be able to access Milby Lock.

We will update the notice when the lock is operational.

Rose Grove Services

ADVICE (11am Monday 24 July 2023 until further notice)

Please be advised the elsan facility at Rose Grove Customer Service Facilities are currently out of use due to a blocked drain.

Contractors have been informed.

An update will be provided Wednesday 26 July.

Contractors have attended site and have successfully removed the tree from the navigation.

The navigation is open.

Contractors will be attending site on Friday 28th July to remove the fallen tree from the navigation.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (2.30pm Monday 24 July 2023 until further notice)

A willow tree has fallen blocking the navigation.

The local team will be attending to site to see if we are able to remove it or if contractors are needed to attend to the site with specialist equipment.

Fallen tree limb across the navigation – now removed

Bridge 30, Golden Lion Bridge

Update on 31/07/2023:

Contractors have attended site and removed the tree, navigation is now open. 

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (2.45pm Monday 24 July 2023 until further notice)

A tree limb has fallen blocking the navigation close to Bridge 30, Golden Lion Bridge inbetween Lock 19 and Lock 20.

We have reported this with our contractors and will update the notice when the tree is removed from the navigation.

Pump out and elsan not available
Sanitary Station, Moorhen Marina

ADVICE (3pm Monday 24 July 2023 until further notice)

Please be advised that Moorhen Marina has blocked drains. This is affecting the pump out and the elsan and so they are unavailable until further notice.

Updates will be provided when available.

Bedford Embankment

ADVICE (Tuesday 25 July 2023)

Please be aware the Bedford Fire Service will be holding a Drowning Prevention Day water rescue demonstration at 11:15 on the Embankment tomorrow 25 July 2023. W3W:// picked.refers.crest at the launch point behind the Longholme Café.
Please take care when navigating in this area and take heed of any signage or instructions from the event’s organisers and marshals on site.

Tree blocking towpath

Update on 26/07/2023:

Contractors have attended and the tree has been removed.

A tree has fallen and is blocking the towpath upstream from the Mexborough top lock,

We have reported this with our contractors and will update the notice when the tree is removed.

Update on 31/07/2023:

Repairs to Golcar Aquaduct have been successful therefore water is now flowing to lock11e and 12e, navigation is now open. 

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (8.45am Tuesday 25 July 2023 until further notice)

Due to water loss from this stretch of canal, we have closed lock 11e to 12e while repairs take place.
