Update on 28/07/2023:

Our team working alongside our specialist contractors have worked extremely hard today at Lock 7 and we are pleased to advise navigation has now resumed along the Audlem Flight of the Shropshire Union canal following a successful temporary repair to the heel post.

Update on 28/07/2023:

Scaffolding has now been installed at Lock 7 on the Audlem Flight. Our teams and specialist contractors will now do all they can to attempt a temporary repair to the heal post so we can resume navigation.

An update on progress made will be provided this afternoon.

Update on 27/07/2023:

Navigation remains closed along the Audlem Flight on the Shropshire Union Canal due to a rotten heal post at Lock 7.

Our team have met with contractors onsite this morning, scaffolding will be installed at Lock 7 tomorrow to allow our specialist contractors to attempt a repair.  

A further update will be provided tomorrow afternoon, Friday 28 July.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (2.45pm Wednesday 26 July 2023 until further notice)

Please be advised navigation is closed along the Audlem Lock Flight on the Shropshire Union Canal due to an issue at Lock 7.

Following a recent inspection, we have found extensive rot to the heel post which is preventing safe use of the lock. Our contractors have been informed and we are currently creating a method of repair. 

An update will be provided tomorrow, Thursday 27 July once we have more information.

We are pleased to advise navigation has resumed along the Greenberfield Lock Flight on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

Please be advised navigation remains closed at Greenberfield Locks on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal due to a sunken boat within Lock 42.

It is anticipated third party contractors will be on site tomorrow to recover the boat. A further update will be provided tomorrow afternoon, Friday 28 July.

Please be aware that there is an overgrown tree at the entrance to White Mills Lock.

Please take care when navigating through this area and be mindful of any protruding branches.

Bridge 132A, Backford Railway

Update on 27/07/2023:

We are pleased to advise the tree has been removed and the canal is now open at Bridge 132A, Backford Railway, on the Shropshire Union Canal in Backford without restriction.

RESTRICTION (11.15am Thursday 27 July 2023 until further notice)

Please be advised there is a windblown tree at Bridge 132A, Backford Railway, on the Shropshire Union Canal in Backford restricting navigation.

Our local team have been informed and are on their way to site.

Navigation will remain open, however we politely request all customers to navigate through the affected area with care. 

An update will be provided this afternoon.

Braunston tunnel will be closed to traffic from 07:30, possibly until 09:30 on Friday 28th July for the passage of 2 widebeam boats, travelling from Welton to Braunston.

Boats may enter the tunnel if directed to do so by a Trust representative at the tunnel portal or after 08:30 if no representative is present.

The required repairs at Stanton Lock has been completed and boaters can now proceed as normal.

Our local team has been unable to clear the obstruction and further assistance is required, which has been planned in.  

There is a persistent leak on the bottom lock gates and plans are also scheduled with our partner group to repair this.  

In the meantime, boaters can still operate the lock but we kindly request that the lock is left empty with the top gates fully sealed and paddles closed.  This will prevent water draining through the bottom gates.

Temporary notices will be placed on the gates to instruct this.  The pound will be topped up for navigation, but water levels may remain low until Friday due to by-wash water recovery.  Please proceed with care.  

We will update the website by the 4th August or as soon as we have more information.

The repairs have now been completed and lock is open.

Update on 27/07/2023:

The team have been able to access Milby Lock and repairs to the sluice shall be undertaken today.

The notice will be updated with the outcome of the repairs.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (11.45am Wednesday 26 July 2023 until further notice)

The sluice starts at Milby Lock have snapped, causing Milby Lock to be non operational.

Repairs will be carried out after the removal of the tree at Bridge 8, Boroughbridge Roundabout as the team will then be able to access Milby Lock.

We will update the notice when the lock is operational.
