We are pleased to advise the tree obstructing navigation has been removed and the canal is now open between Bridge 204 and Bridge 207 on the Trent & Mersey Canal.

Starts At: Blisworth Tunnel North Portal
Ends At: Blisworth Tunnel South Portal

ADVICE (7.30-9am Tuesday 19 December 2023)

Blisworth tunnel will be closed to traffic from 07:30, possibly until 09:00 on Tuesday 19th December for the passage of a widebeam boat travelling from Blisworth to Stoke Bruerne.

Boats may enter the tunnel if directed to do so by a Trust representative at the tunnel portal or after 08:00 if no representative is present. 

Starts At: Braunston Tunnel West Portal
Ends At: Braunston Tunnel East Portal

ADVICE (7.30-9am Tuesday 19 December 2023)

Braunston tunnel will be closed to traffic from 07:30, possibly until 09:00 on Tuesday 19th December for the passage of a widebeam boat travelling from Braunston to Welton.

Boats may enter the tunnel if directed to do so by a Trust representative at the tunnel portal or after 08:00 if no representative is present. 

Bridge Inspection – Stratford High Street Rd Bridge – Waterworks River

Intersection of: Northern Outfall Sewer Bridge to Northern Outfall Sewer Bridge on Waterworks River and
Accomodation Bridge to Accomodation Bridge on Three Mills River

ADVICE (8am-6pm Tuesday 19 December 2023)

Project Centre Ltd will be undertaking a principal bridge inspection of Stratford Highstreet Rd Bridge which spans the Waterworks River. 

Inspection will be undertaken via a safety boat and modular pontoon within the river.

Navigation will always remain unrestricted

Update on 18/12/2023:

Over the weekend our contractors started with the repair work to the culvert south of Bridge 87, Kent Green Bridge on the Macclesfield Canal.

Works progressed well on Friday the void within the towpath was repaired. Following which our contractors completed work to the canal bed on Saturday. Grouting was undertaken around the affected area on Sunday. Further work will continue this week and upon till Friday to reinstate the towpath.

Our engineers and contractors will carry out testing later this week to establish if the repair work to the canal bed was successful.

We are pleased to advise navigation can resume between Lock 13, Hall Green Stop Lock and Bridge 87, Kent Green Bridge and Bridge 89, Morris Bridge to Lock 12, Bosley Bottom Lock, as water levels have now stabilised.

However, for the safety of our customers and to ensure a safe working environment, the canal and towpath will remain closed between Bridge 87, Kent Green Bridge and Bridge 89, Morris Bridge.

A further update will be provided by Wednesday 20 December.

Towpath closure – unstable wall
Starts At: Lock 32 East
Ends At: Bridge 53, Fishers Footbridge

TOWPATH CLOSURE (9.15am Tuesday 19 December 2023 until further notice)

The towpath between Lock 32 east and Bridge 53 is closed due to an unstable wall that could present a risk to towpath users.

Engineers are currently looking into who the land owner is who owns the wall and are looking to have it repaired

Access points onto the towpath are at Lock 31e & Bridge 54, Pig tail Bridge at the Lock 32 east side, for westward towpath use. Lock 29 east is the closest access point for Bridge 53..

We will update the notice when we receive a further update

The toilet is now back open for use.

Gt Barford 48 Hr Mooring

ADVICE (Tuesday 19 December 2023 until rescinded)

Please be aware that due to the condition of the mooring this has been closed for health & safety reasons until further notice.
Signage and barriers are to be installed to prevent access to the mooring whilst arrangements can be made to complete permanent repairs but, in the meantime, boaters are requested not attempt to use this mooring.

Linton Lock

RESTRICTION (3pm Monday 18 December 2023 until further notice)

A  tree is partially blocking the navigation at Linton Lock. 

Skippers are able to pass but please slow down and approach the area with caution.

We will update the notice when the tree has been removed.

Contractors have attended site to fit a new part, however this has not rectified the fault.  

We will be re-visiting site as soon as we source another part.  We will update this notice when we have information to share.

We are pleased to advise that works on Lock 96 have finished early, and the waterway will now reopen on the morning of December 20th, 2 days ahead of programme.
