Update on 03/01/2024:

We have visited site along with the Environment Agency. The area has been assessed and deemed safe for Canal users.

Navigation is now open.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (10am Wednesday 3 January 2024 until further notice)

The Environment Agency has made us aware there is a breach on the banking up stream from Long Sandall Lock,

We have engineers attending site along with the Environment Agency to asses the damage. 

We will update this notice once we have more information to share. 

Blackburn Customer Services

ADVICE (2pm Tuesday 2 January 2024 until further notice)

Please be advised the elsan facility at Blackburn Customer Services is currently out of use due to a blockage. 

Contractors have been informed. 

An update will be provided Thursday 4th January 2024.

Tree down and blocking Navigation by the embankment at Nash Mills

RESTRICTION (4.45pm Tuesday 2 January 2024 until further notice)

A Tree has come down and is blocking the towpath and navigation in Nash Mills.

Our team is aware and working to get this cleared as soon as possible. 

Impound Station Footbridge closed
Pumping Station

Update on 02/01/2024:

Following the approval for access from Third Party landowners, a crane is booked to install the new steelwork at the impounding station bridge for 10/01/24. We are hopeful that the works will be completed before the end of January 2024

Towpath Closure
Starts At: Bridge 19, Jacksons Bridge
Ends At: Bridge 20, Coxhead Swing Bridge

TOWPATH CLOSURE (10am Tuesday 2 January 2024 until further notice)

Please be advised the towpath is closed between Bridge 19 and Bridge 20 on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal due to a windblown tree.

Contractors have been informed to remove the obstruction.

An update will be provided Thursday 4 January.

400m upstream of Bridge15
Starts At: Bridge 15, Lowes Bridge
Ends At: Bridge 16, Barrow Bridge

RESTRICTION (3pm Saturday 30 December 2023 until 3pm Friday 5 January 2024)

Fallen Tree partly blocking the navigation at 400m upstream of Bridge15 on the Trent and Mersey Canal-Boaters advised to proceed with caution. Our operatives will endeavour to clear the tree during the first week of the New Year.

Atlip Road Pump Out

ADVICE (1pm Sunday 31 December 2023 until further notice)

The Atlip road elsan in Alperton on the Paddington Arm (Grand Union Canal) is out of use due to broken pipe work.

Starts At: Bridge 204, Cul De Sac Bridge
Ends At: Aqueduct, Bridge 205 Little Leigh

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (9am Friday 29 December 2023 until further notice)

Please be advised that the towpath and navigation is closed between Bridge 204 and Bridge 205 on the Trent & Mersey Canal due to a large windblown tree.  

Contractors have been informed and are currently onsite trying to remove the obstruction. 

An update will be provided later today.  

Near to lock 15

Update on 29/12/2023:

This tree has now been cleared and towpath users can proceed as normal.

Harecastle Tunnel CSF

The shower facility at Harecastle Tunnel, North portal, is out of use due to an electrical fault. Our contractors are aware but due to the Christmas and New Year period there may be a delay in attending.

The remaining facilities will remain accessible to customers when the tunnel is staffed during normal operating hours

Local team have partially cleared this tree and boats can now pass, but please use caution when passing.
