Repair ADVICE (12noon Monday 6 February 2023 until further notice) Repair work is being carried out to Rainbow Bridge. A pontoon is being placed in the water to allow work to be carried out. Boaters are advised to slow down when approaching the bridge and allow the team time to clear the navigation. Stopping may be required whilst this happens. The work will not affect traffic on evenings or weekends. PD Ports Jetty River Ouse ADVICE (6am-6pm Saturday 4 February 2023) Contractors will be undertaking bed levelling and survey work at Jetty No. 4 PD Ports Howdendyke, this is the upstream jetty. The survey tug ‘Little Shuva’ will be engaged in the work and will maintain a listening watch on channel 9 & 14. Skippers of all craft are to exercise care and caution in the area and to give the ‘Little Shuva” as wide a berth as possible, passing at the SLOWEST POSSIBLE SPEED to avoid creating a wash. Third party vegetation management on Hertford Union, adjacent to Wickside Development ADVICE (until Tuesday 7 February 2023) O’Shea Company is managing overgrown vegetation adjacent to their proposed development. Towpath is to remain open at all times Near Freeman’s Meadow Lock – Leicester Line Our local team have attended site and successfully secured the craft. It is no longer blocking the navigation and boaters can now travel as normal. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (Wednesday 1 February 2023 until further notice) There is a large craft which has come loose near Freeman’s Meadow Lock, opposite the King Power Stadium. Boats will struggle to get past, so we recommend that our customers do not travel along this section, until we have been able to secure the craft. Our local team have been informed and will be attending site as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience during this time. As soon as we have more information, we will update the website accordingly. Bishopton waterpoint The leak has now been fixed on the waterpoint. ADVICE (3pm Wednesday 1 February 2023 until further notice) The waterpoint is leaking, we are not able to isolate, so please take extra care in the area whilst we await our contractors attendance. Upstream of Huntingdon Boat Haven ADVICE (Thursday 2 February 2023 until rescinded) Please be aware there is a sunken tree in the navigation upstream of Between Cosgrove Lock 21 and Cosgrove Lock Top Gate RESTRICTION (Thursday 2 February until Tuesday 7 February 2023) Due to gas engineers looking for and repairing a leak on a gas main, we have had to temporarily restrict the towpath between Cosgrove Lock and Cosgrove Lock Top Gate. Customers can still use the towpath, but due to the work taking place, certain sections will become narrower. Once the leak has been located, repair works will be required and so the restrictions could be in place for up to 5 days. We will update the website as and when we have more information. Seend Pump out ADVICE (Thursday 2 February 2023 until further notice) Please be advised that the pump out facility at Seend is currently unavailable. The elsan is still fully operational. Contractors have been informed and we will update this notice when we have further information. The nearest pump out facility in the eastwards direction is Caen Hill Flight, Lock 44. The nearest pump out in the westwards direction is at Bradford on Avon Wharf. Tees Barrage Slipway ADVICE (8am Tuesday 31 January until 2pm Friday 3 February 2023) Tees Barrage slipway will be closed for the removal of debris and large trees that have been washed down the river. Opened The water levels have returned and we are able to open Oxclose Lock. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (1pm Tuesday 31 January 2023 until further notice) Oxclose Lock is closed due to ongoing repairs at Belfurrows Lock that has resulted in a drop in water levels between Oxclose and Belfurrows Lock. The closure is to maintain the water levels outside of these locks on the canal. We will review it on Friday afternoon, where we hope to have a progression on the works and pumps can be put in place. Ocker Hill CSF The pump out has now been repaired and available for use again. ADVICE (2pm Tuesday 31 January 2023 until further notice) The pump out is not working as it should. Our contractors have been contacted, so please bear with us. Lock 8, Holme Lock Our local team has successfully cleared the tree branch and Holme Lock can now be self-operated again. Our local team attended site yesterday, but were still unable to remove the large tree branch which is blocking gate 2 of Holme Lock. They will be back on site this afternoon, to try and clear it using one of our workboats. In the meantime, the lock is still not self-operational. Anyone wishing to come through Holme Lock, please ring 0303 040 4040 and we will do our best to assist with your passage. As soon as we have more information, we will update the website accordingly. Thank you for your continued patience, while we try to get this resolved as quickly as possible. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (Wednesday 1 February 2023 until further notice) There is a large tree branch trapped in gate 2 of Holme Lock. Trust representatives have tried to flush it out, but unfortunately it is wedged in and needs further equipment to pull it out. Due to this issue with the tree branch, it does mean that the lock cannot currently be self-operated. We are trying to organise the removal of this tree branch as quickly as possible and as soon as we have a time scale, our website will be updated accordingly. In the meantime, if you need to travel through Holme Lock, please contact 0303 040 4040 and we will do our best to arrange for a lock keeper to assist with your passage. Lock 49, Barrowford Road We are pleased to advise our engineers have been successful in repairing and filling the void on the offside of Lock 49, Barrowford Road on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and normal operation has resumed. ADVICE (1.45pm Friday 27 January 2023 until further notice) Please be advised navigation is currently restricted to towpath side paddles only at Lock 49, Barrowford Road on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal due to void in the offside embankment. Our local engineers have been to site to assess a method of repair. We anticipate the repair works will start Monday 30 January. To ensure the safety of our customers the offside paddles have been restricted and embankment is out of bounds with temporary fencing installed. A further update will be provided Friday 3 February. Near to Bridge 132A, Backford Railway bridge RESTRICTION (4pm Friday 27 January 2023 until further notice) Please be advised that third-party contractors will be onsite near bridge 132A, Backford Railway Bridge on the Shropshire Union Canal. The third party contractors will be carrying out vegetation works to clear fallen trees that have partially blocked the navigation. Navigation is passable with care but we politely request all customers to approach the area with caution. Please take note of the signage and to listen to any advice that may be given by the third party contractors onsite An update will be given on Thurs 16th February
