TOWPATH CLOSURE (until 5pm Friday 26 May 2023)

Update on 21/04/2023:

Please be advised it is just be the Southern towpath at St Vincent Street to Rotten Park Street that will be closed until May 26th.

We will be closing the rest of the towpath off in sections. We will update the notice as soon as we receive the dates for the other sections.

Update on 02/03/2023:

Please be advised it is just the southern side of the towpath that is closed.

TOWPATH CLOSURE (8am Monday 27 February 2023 until 5pm Tuesday 1 August 2023)

The towpath will be closed from St Vincent Street Bridge to Main Line Turnover Bridge on the New Main Line. This is for improvement works starting from 27th February and finishing 1st August.

The works will include towpath widening and resurfacing with tar & chip and access point improvements.

For safety reasons, the towpath will need to be closed for the duration of the works with no mooring permitted within the closed section of the towpath. Navigation will remain open.

Thank you for your patience as these improvement works are carried out.

We are pleased to advise the craft has been removed and the canal is now open between Lock 74 Drunken Bridge, and Lock 75 Slaters Higher on the Rochdale Canal.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (4pm Thursday 20 April 2023 until further notice)

Please be advised navigation is closed between Lock 74 Drunken Bridge, and Lock 75 Slaters Higher on the Rochdale Canal due to a sunken craft. Contractors have been informed.

We are pleased to advise the the water point at Dean Lock 90 on Leeds & Liverpool Canal has been successfully repaired. 

ADVICE (11.30am Wednesday 12 April 2023 until further notice)

Please be advised the water point at Dean Lock 90 on Leeds & Liverpool Canal is currently out of use due to a leak.

Contractors have been informed.

An update will be provided Friday 14 April.

Gates on Lock 8 – not fully closing – obstruction removed

Update on 20/04/2023:

The obstruction to the gates at Lock 8, has been removed and the gates are able to close properly.

ADVICE (2.45pm Tuesday 11 April 2023 until further notice)

There is a slight obstruction to the gates at Lock 8 on the Rochdale. Only one gate is able to close properly.

The non closing gate has been pushed to close as much as possible.

The team will be able to obtain the correct equipment  tomorrow and will return to site to remove the obstacle which is preventing both of the gates closing fully together.

Lock 66 – Hallam Fields Lock

Update on 20/04/2023:

The submerged motorbike is no longer causing a restriction to the Erewash Canal.  

Boaters can proceed as normal. 

ADVICE (10am Wednesday 19 April 2023 until further notice)

A submerged motorbike has been reported in the navigation next to Hallam Fields Lock.

Our local operations team have been notified and will attend site as soon as possible.

All boaters are advised to approach this section with caution until the obstruction has been removed.

Old Mill House Hotel Elsan

Due to vandalism at Old Mill House Hotel the Elsan disposal has been closed until further notice.

A mattress has been fly-tipped on the offside of the Nottingham Beeston Canal opposite Castle Marina, and east of Chippendale Street.

We will endeavour to remove this as soon as our workboat is next in the area.

Overnight cable pull on Grand Union Canal and Slough arm towpaths

Intersection of: Bridge 10, Middlegreen Road to Bridge 10, Middlegreen Road on Slough Arm (Grand Union Canal) and Bridge 201, Western Road (Northyde) to Bridge 201, Western Road (Northyde) on Grand Union Canal

ADVICE (8pm Monday 17 April until 7am Tuesday 2 May 2023)

JSM hand pulling cable through previously installed chambers overnight. Boaters to remain undisturbed and towpath to remain open.

Cawood Bridge

Update on 20/04/2023:

We have been advised by North Yorkshire County Council that Cawood Bridge is now operational

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (12noon Tuesday 18 April 2023 until further notice)

We have been advised by North Yorkshire County Council that Cawood bridge is unable to swing due to a mechanical issue resulting in the bridge currently unable to close properly.

Crafts that do not require a swing can still get through, but will need to contact the bridge keeper for an air draught.

We will update the notice when further information is received.

Obstruction in River Dunn

RESTRICTION (1pm Tuesday 18 April 2023 until further notice)

We have received a report of an obstruction in the navigation around 100m upstream from the bridge. 

Please slow down on approach. 

We will update the notice once we have fully investigated.

Update on 17/04/2023:

We would like to kindly remind our customers that Sneyd Wharf CSF and visitor moorings remains out of action.

We will open the CSF again as soon as it is safe to do so. This is likely to be the end of July, which is when the towpath works should finish along this section.

ADVICE (8am Tuesday 21 March 2023 until further notice)

We have had to close Sneyd Wharf Customer Service Facility and the visitor moorings. This is to ensure the safety of the public and our contractors, in light of the current towpath refurbishment works happening at this location. The notice for this can be found here:
