Lock 69 Newton Heath We are pleased to advise the water levels have recovered at Lock 69, Newton Heath on the Rochdale Canal and navigation has resumed. We are pleased to advise the repairs to the 2 paddles at Lock 69, Newton Heath on the Rochdale Canal have been successful, however navigation will remain closed to allow the pound to replenish, we anticipate this will take till tomorrow morning. An update will be provided tomorrow, Thursday 27 April, following the team’s inspection of the water levels. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (12.45pm Tuesday 25 April 2023 until further notice) Please be advised navigation is currently closed at Lock 69, Newton Heath on the Rochdale Canal due to paddle failure. Our local team are currently gathering the required materials and equipment and are aiming to be onsite tomorrow to carry out the repair the 2 paddles that have failed. Once the repair is complete, the pound will need time to replenish. An update will be provided tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday 26 April. Beeston Lock – CSF Works have been completed at Beeston CSF and the site is now open for use as normal. Contractors attended site on Friday, to continue with the repairs at Beeston Elsan. Unfortunately, the situation is not resolved and further work is still required. Beeston facilities remain closed and we will update the website by the 17th May with further information. Contractors will be back on site tomorrow, to continue with the repairs required at Beeston Elsan. We will update the website at the end of the day tomorrow, once we have more information. Contractors attended Beeston CSF today, but unfortunately further works are still required to rectify this issue. They will be attending site again next week, and we will update the website on the 11th May when we have more information. The elsan continues to be out of action, until this issue is resolved. Our contractors have attended site and, due to misuse of the Elsan (bulky nappy like items had been put down it), the pumps are broken and require a full repair. The Elsan is out of action until this work is completed. We do not presently have a time scale for completion, but this notice will be updated by the 5th May with more information. ADVICE (Thursday 27 April 2023 until further notice) The Elsan at Beeston customer service facilities is currently out of action and an urgent job has been raised with our contractors. We will update this notice by 5pm on 28th April with more information. US Cardington Lock Canoe Portage Update on 09/05/2023: Repairs to the upstream canoe portage at Cardington Lock has now been completed therefore our advisory notice issued on 25 April 2023 is rescinded. ADVICE (Tuesday 25 April 2023 until rescinded) Please be aware the above canoe portage is currently out of use and closed Water Point, Yardley Wood The water point is now flowing and operational again. The case is currently being held by tape, we are looking into this. One of the water points in Yardley Wood is out of use. The other one is working okay. Please bear with us whilst our teams investigate. Starts At: Saltersford Large Lock We are pleased to advise the works have been completed and navigation has resumed between Saltersford Large Lock and Winnington Swing Bridge on the Weaver Navigation. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (11am Tuesday 25 April 2023 until further notice) Please be advised navigation is currently closed between Saltersford Large Lock and Winnington Swing Bridge on the Weaver Navigation to facilitate the installation of third-party cables, to complete the work divers will be in the river throughout. An update will be provided Wednesday 26 April. South towpath between St Vincent Street Bridge to Rotten Park Street, New Mainline Intersection of: St Vincent Street Bridge, Vincent St. to Lea Bridge, Turnover, Winson Green on New Mainline and Rotton Park Junction Turnover Bridge to Rotton Park Junction Turnover Bridge on Icknield Port Loop Tarmacking is currently underway and works are due to be completed at this section tomorrow (Friday 9th June) Update on 31/05/2023: The towpath from St Vincent Street to Rotten Park Street remains closed until the week commencing 05/06/23. Updates for this section will be posted here :South towpath between St Vincent Street Bridge to Rotten Park Street, New Mainline | Canal & River Trust (canalrivertrust.org.uk) TOWPATH CLOSURE (until 5pm Friday 9 June 2023) Works are due to be completed at this section on the week commencing 05/06/23. The south towpath from St Vincent Street to Rotten Park Street will be closed until Friday May 26th. Rotten Park Street to Rabone Lane will be closed from Monday 29th May to Friday 30th June. RESTRICTION (10am Monday 24 April 2023 until further notice) A tree has fallen 300m south of Bridge 63A, partially blocking navigation. Our contractors have been contacted and will be on site to remove the tree as soon as possible. We will provide another update as soon as we receive further information. Towpath between Maerdy and Arddleen TOWPATH CLOSURE (7am Monday 24 April until 6pm Friday 5 May 2023) The towpath will be closed between Maerdy and Arddleen. This is for towpath re-dressing works taking place Monday to Friday until 5th May. The towpath will be back open on weekends. Thank you for your patience as these improvement works are carried out. Obstruction, Bridge 127A, Gannow Bridge We are pleased to advise the underwater obstruction has been removed from Bridge 127A, Gannow Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool canal and navigation has resumed without restriction. Unfortunately, our team have been delayed to site due to unforeseen events. Until our team have managed to inspect the area with the intention to remove the underwater obstruction, please continue to navigate through Bridge 127A, Gannow Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal with care.
