Mexborough Low Lock Repairs have now been completed, navigation is now open. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (4pm Monday 1 May 2023 until further notice) One gate cannot be closed due to a burst hydraulic pipe on a power pack. A team will be returning to carry out a repair tomorrow, Tues 2nd May. Lock 63, Johnsons Hillock We are pleased to advise the repair to Lock 63 on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal has been successful and navigation has resumed between Lock 64, Bottom Lock and Lock 58, Top Lock. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (10.30am Tuesday 2 May 2023 until further notice) Please be advised navigation is currently closed at Lock 63 on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal due to a fault with the towpath side tailgate collar and hinge. Our local team have been to site and investigated the issue and a method of repair is being organised. To ensure the safety of our customers, padlocks have been placed on Lock 64, Bottom Lock and Lock 58, Top Lock to prevent access on to the Johnsons Hillock flight. An update will be provided Wednesday 3 May. Hatton Top lock waterpoint The leak has been repaired, however please exercise caution when using as the waterpoint casing has become detached. We are looking into this issue. ADVICE (3.45pm Tuesday 28 March 2023 until further notice) The waterpoint has a substantial leak, this has been reported to our contractors. Please bear with us whilst this leak is repaired. Elsan We are pleased to advise the Elsan has been emptied and is now back in use at Durn Customer Service Facilities. ADVICE (12.45pm Tuesday 2 May 2023 until further notice) Please be advised the elsan facility at Durn Customer Service Facilities on the Rochdale Canal is overflowing and out of use. Contractors have been informed and we await their attendance. An update will be provided by Friday 5 May. Bridge 4, Purton Upper Following the notice below we are pleased to advise that Purton Upper Bridge is working as normal and the canal is now open. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (3pm Saturday 29 April 2023 until further notice) Please be advised that Purton Upper Bridge is currently closed due to a structural and mechanical failure. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and update this notice as soon as possible. Selby Swingbridge 1 NAVIGATION CLOSURE (Saturday 29 April 2023 until further notice) The swing bridge currently cannot be operated for boat traffic. A team will be attending Sunday 30th April to carry out a repair. Starts At: Bridge 10, Whitlocks End Farm Our contractors have now been out and cleared the tree from the canal, so navigation is now fully open through this area. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (12noon Sunday 30 April 2023 until further notice) There is a large oak tree blocking the canal and towpath in between bridge 10 and 11 on the north Stratford we are working to mobilise contractor’s to sight to remove the tree there will be a Further update on Tuesday 02/05/2023 “We understand that this closure may disrupt your schedule. We are taking every step to fix the problem as soon as possible and we will keep you updated of our progress.” Lock 8, Mayroyd NAVIGATION CLOSURE (9am Saturday 29 April 2023 until further notice) The pound above Lock 8 at Mayroyd has been drained overnight. We have an Operative working upstream to replenish the levels which involves moving water down from the summit. Lock 8 has therefore been chained-up to prevent further water loss whilst this recovery operation takes place. We expect this recovery to last all day on Saturday 29th April 2023, and will provide an update on re-opening towards the end of the day. Railway Bridge, Coneygree Additional brickwork repairs have been identified to the west abutment, which means that the pontoon will remain in place until the contractors complete these works on 05/05/23. The birds have now left Coneygree Railway Bridge and contractors can restart the works on 24/04/23. RESTRICTION (8am Monday 10 April until 5pm Sunday 30 April 2023) Please be advised contractors have had to defer these works. A duck has nested on the wingwall plinth of the Coneygree Railway Bridge, so the installation of the pontoon and the fendering need to be deferred to April. The exact dates are still unknown, but we will provide a further update as soon as we receive this. Contractors working on behalf of Midland Metro Alliance will install a protective fendering on the offside abutment at Railway Bridge, Coneygree. A pontoon will be installed in the water to facilitate the installation of the fendering. The canal will remain open, but navigation traffic will be restricted to single lane traffic through the site throughout the works. Signage and banksmen will be utilised to manage boaters. We kindly remind boaters to follow signage and directions given on site and take care when passing through this area Zouch Flood Gates (Environment Agency Flood Light) We have been advised that the Environment Agency Flood Light at Zouch is now working correctly. There continues to be a fault with the Environment Agency Flood Light at Zouch and it is not currently corresponding with the flood levels. Our local operations team will be attending site to determine whether they can clear it or if contractors will be required. Please avoid this section of towpath until the tree has been cleared. ADVICE (8.30am Thursday 27 April 2023 until further notice) There is a currently a boat wedged into the lock at Factory Top Lock on the New Main Line canal, making it impassable for other boats. Contractors will be returning over the coming weeks to finish works to the Lock, and, therefore, there may be left fencing or signage etc.in place around the site whilst the works are being finished. However, this will not impact navigation through either lock.
