Bridge 212, Idle Swing Bridge We are pleased to advise the repair to Bridge 212, Idle Swing Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal has been successful and navigation has resumed. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (11.45am Sunday 14 May until 4pm Monday 15 May 2023) Please be advised navigation is currently closed at Bridge 212, Idle Swing Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal due to a mechanical fault. Our contractors have been informed and are on their way to site. An update will be provided tomorrow, Monday 15th May. ADVICE (Sunday 14 May 2023 until further notice) The Strong Stream Advice issued for the River Nene has been cancelled. All locks that were closed to discharge flood waters have been re-opened, however please note there is additional water being run off via the sluices. Sharpness Entrance to Gloucester & Sharpness Canal – North Sea Gate (Gate 1) to South Dock Gate (No 6) ADVICE (8am Tuesday 16 May 2023 until further notice) SHARPNESS DREDGING OPERATIONS MAY 2023 Customers are advised that dredging operations will commence on Tues 16th May. Plough dredging will be conducted by the JD Marine vessel ‘Bev-D’ during limited daylight hours in the bell-mouth and inside the tidal basin. ‘Bev-D’ will be restricted in her ability to manoeuvre when operating, showing the relevant day signals. Whilst operating, ‘Bev-D’ will maintain a listening watch on VHF channel 13 and will liaise with any vessels entering or exiting Sharpness Port. All vessels are requested to proceed with caution and allow a wide berth. Further information can be gained directly from the vessel or from ‘Sharpness Radio’ on VHF channel 13. An update will be communicated when operations are complete and this Local Notice to Mariners is cancelled. Updated on 11/04/2023: THIS IS A POLITE REMINDER THAT STRONG STREAM ADVICE ADVICE (Tuesday 11 April 2023 until further notice) Please be advised that teams from the Environment Agency are Brandon Lock Update on 17/05/2023: Emergency navigation closure notice issued on 12 May 2023 for a tree stuck in Brandon Lock on the river Little Ouse is now rescinded and the lock re-opened to navigation. EMERGENCY CLOSURE (Friday 12 May 2023 until rescinded) Brandon Lock is currently closed to navigation due to a large tree limb becoming lodged in the lock chamber which will be removed as soon as it as practical to do so. Wellingborough Embankment Facilities Updated on 11/05/2023: The Elsan facility and Pump-Out at Wellingborough Embankment has reopened and therefore our navigation advisory notice issued on 26 April 2023 is rescinded. ADVICE (Wednesday 26 April until further notice) Please be aware that the Elsan Facility and Pump-Out at Wellingborough Embankment is closed until further notice. Devizes Wharf elsan Further to the notice below, Devizes Wharf elsan has been fixed and is now operational. Further to the notice below, we are sorry to advise that Devizes Wharf elsan has failed and is currently unavailable. ADVICE (5pm Friday 14 April 2023 until further notice) We are sorry to advise that Devizes Wharf elsan has failed and is currently unavailable. Our contractors have been informed and we will provide further information after their visit. Opening times for Lock 8 and Lock 9 – 9am to 3pm (Daily) Lock 8, Mayroyd Due to very low water levels between locks 8 and 9, the locks will remain padlocked until water levels have recovered. We have been closely monitoring the situation and are extending the lock restriction to be in place daily. Lock 8 and Lock 9 will be open between 9am to 3pm every day and will be locked up overnight out of these hours. Any low water issues need to be reported into our teams on 03030 404040 and will be resolved in the correct manner by the operations team. Hand Rail Missing Rrepairs to the handrail will be taking place on Monday 15th May. Navigation may be held up for short periods of time whist our team carry out the repairs needed to the bottom gate are undertaken ADVICE (11.30am Thursday 11 May 2023 until further notice) Please be advised that due to vandalism, the tow path hand rail is missing. Access across the the lock is restricted to top gates and adjacent road bridge only. A repair to the gate handrail is now being planned. Bridge 147, Winkwell Swingbridge Bridge repairs complete. Navigation is now available NAVIGATION CLOSURE (1.45pm Thursday 11 May 2023 until further notice) Please be advised that the navigation is closed at Winkwell Swing Bridge due to a fault. Repairs are being arranged. Updates to follow when available Pump out The lock has now been replaced and the pump out can now be accessed again. ADVICE (8am Wednesday 10 May 2023 until further notice) The pump out is currently out of order due to a faulty lock which gains access to the card reader. Our contractors have been contacted so please bear with us. Tree overhanging towpath and navigation RESTRICTION (11.45am Wednesday 10 May 2023 until further notice) A tree has fallen partially blocking the towpath. Please approach the area with caution. Contractors will be out to attend to the tree as soon as possible. We will update the notice when it is removed. Tree partially blocking the navigation The tree has been removed and the towpath and navigation are available for passage. RESTRICTION (11.45am Wednesday 10 May 2023 until further notice) A tree has fallen partially blocking the towpath and the navigation just below Bridge 6, Station Road Bridge. Could skippers of all crafts, please slow down and approach the area with caution. We will update the notice when contractors have removed the tree and the navigation is clear. Rothwell ADVICE (until 6pm Tuesday 9 May 2023) Contractors will be carrying out a bridge inspection involving the use of rope access. We anticipate no impacts to boating and navigation users on the waterway. Walkers and cyclists please be advised there may be a low impact when crossing the bridge whilst these works are carried out.
