Update on 01/06/2021:

River levels are now normal and the section between Diglis Lock and Lincomb Lock is designated:

GREEN – Normal.

Navigation is now open please navigate with the usual care.

Sheffield & Tinsley Canal

Update on 28/05/2021:

The obstruction has now been removed from behind the downstream gates of Lock 10, therefore passage through Lock 10 is now possible for both wide beam and narrow boats.

ADVICE (8am Wednesday 14 April until 6pm Wednesday 21 April 2021)

The canal and towpath will remain open. Contractors on behalf of Sandwell MBC will be revisiting site again to undertake further investigation works to the bridge. A floating pontoon will be used to gain access to and from the offside of the canal. We kindly ask customers to follow directions when passing through the work area.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal

Please be advised Rose Grove Customer Service Facilities on Huddersfield Narrow Canal are currently closed due to blocked drains.

Contractors have been informed and we anticipate their attendance on site Tuesday 9th March .

An update will be provided tomorrow.

Leeds & Liverpool Canal

Bridge 41, Hand Lane Bridge

ADVICE (until further notice)

Please be advised third-party contractors will be onsite Bridge 41, Hand Lane Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal to carry out essential works to a third-party owned adjacent railway bridge wing wall.

To be able to carry out the necessary works access will be restricted at Bridge 41, Hand Lane Bridge, towpath users will not be able to leave or gain access at Bridge 41, Hand Lane Bridge.
The works have no direct impact on the canal, however, Network Rail will need access to Trust owned land on the offside of the canal, and therefore access over the canal is prohibited to prevent conflict with the works.
Fencing will be installed on the offside of the bridge carriage to prevent access and signage will be erected to inform the public of the closure.
Please listen to any advice that may be given by the third-party contractors and take note of the signage onsite.
An update will be provided to us by Network Rail once works have been carried out.

Please be aware Hampstead Road Lock, Lock 1a is closed due to an oil slick. The operations team have attended and placed a boom across the top lock to stop the potential spread of the oil.

Please be aware the downstream mooring at Hermitage Lock is
currently closed due to health and safety reasons. Under no circumstances
should any attempt to access the mooring be made.

 

Tees Navigation

Yarm Railway Viaduct Dive Inspection

RESTRICTION (8am-6pm Tuesday 10 March 2020)

Contractors will be undertaking a dive inspection of the structure.
Inspection of the bridge will be taking place to ensure it’s in a safe condition. The Contractor will use diving techniques with a support boat.
Please can skippers of all craft slow down and approach the area with caution. There may be delays of up to 20 minutes whilst the contractors move the divers out of the way.
