FARNDON Marina on the River Trent is to be sold. Owned and developed for more than 50 years by the Ainsworth family, it the first time the marina has been on the open market. Alison Alderton reports…
Set in the Nottinghamshire village of Farndon, the marina site spans 25 acres and has berthing for more than 300 boats. Surrounded by woodlands and agricultural land, which offer a good range of walking trails, it is a haven for both flora and fauna. In the springtime the marina grounds are awash with colour from the blossom of the mature cherry trees surrounding the site, making it a delight to visit even if you are not a boater.

Within the grounds there is a modern office building housing a chandlery and successful boat sales centre, workshops, boat lift, a ramp allowing the launch and recovery of craft by trailer, hardstanding and more.
From Farndon Marina boaters can explore the River Trent upstream towards Nottingham and beyond or head downstream passing through Newark-on-Trent to join the tidal waters which provide access to many of the north-eastern waterways and beyond the North Sea.
Speaking to Towpath Talk, a long-term berth holder at Farndon Marina said: “It is the end of an era. The Ainsworth family have looked after my boat for more than 20 years and provided me with a home from home. It is a sad occasion but after all the hard work they have put into making this place the success it is today they deserve some quality time to enjoy their own pastimes. I wish them the very best.”

Meanwhile it is very much business as usual for Farndon Marina, where an upgrade to the existing pontoons is currently under way along with essential tree maintenance and the planning for the annual open weekend event on May 17 and 18. The event promises a wide range of both water and land-based activities for visitors including hands-on boat demonstrations. There is also an opportunity to support the RNLI by entering a prize draw to win a Rebel Raider 330 RIB package. Discover more at: www.farndonmarina.co.uk
