A wildfire broke out in a popular nature reserve in Essex on August 5.
About 10 hectares of field were alight in Creeksea Ferry Road on Wallasea Island. By 5pm, firefighters had extinguished the blaze and dampened down hotspots.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service did not state the cause, but said it was working with the farmer to create a fire break.
The RSPB reserve is about 740 hectares in total, made up of marshland, lagoons, ditches and sea. Three million tonnes of soil excavated during the construction of the Elizabeth line tunnels beneath London were taken to Wallasea by ship to raise the land and create 115 hectares of new saltmarsh, islands and mudflats.
