Lock 16 Rochdale River Pump
Update on 31/10/2022:
The water levels have improved, but will however still be closely monitored. The River Pump at Lock 16 is not needed and has been removed.
ADVICE (11.45am Friday 26 August 2022 until further notice)
Over the last few weeks we have been experiencing increasing incidents of fuel theft from the river pump at Lock 16, at a fuel cost of up to £1000 each time. This is affecting our ability to maintain pump operation throughout the week, which provides essential water supply downstream of Lock 16. Security of the pump and its operation is under review, and we will provide a further update shortly. In the meantime, the pump will remain switched off and water levels monitored and managed as necessary.
Please can we also take this opportunity to remind customers not to attempt to move water between canal pounds in this area. If you experience low levels then please call our Customer Service team on 0303 040 4040 to ensure we are aware and can adopt a full canal approach to replenishing water that does not put others at risk.
