Update on 11/08/2023:
The works on lock 8 are now complete.
The fabric dam will be removed on Monday 14 August and the section will re-fill with water.
We expect the canal will be ready to re-open during the afternoon of 14 August.
A further update will be given by 15 August.
Update on 09/08/2023:
The fabric dam has been fitted. We have found that there is an issue with both paddles and the metal work in the brackets and rods needs to be replaced.
The cills are loose and they have debris under them. We are clearing and fixing the cills and adjusting the gates.
NAVIGATION CLOSURE (7am Monday 7 August 2023 until further notice)
There have been problems with leakage of water from lock 8 for some time, causing low water levels in the Hebden Bridge area during drier weather.
We have arranged for a fabric dam to be installed on 7 August. This will allow the team to inspect and repair any faults with the gates and paddles.
Once we have inspected the structures and understand the nature of what needs to be fixed, we will give an update about expected timescales for these repairs.
There will be no passage through lock 8 once the fabric dam is installed and until the repairs are complete and the dam is removed.
We will update this notice on 9 August.
