Obstruction near Upton upon Severn

Update on 29/09/2022:

Further to the notice below, we can now confirm that this obstruction is a build up of gravel. This gravel has created a ‘bar’ across the channel, causing low water levels at this location.

We are engaging with contractors to find the best course of action given the unprecedented low water levels on the River Severn.

This location has been marked with a yellow buoy – what3words reference: ///incursion.splash.jacket – Please navigate this stretch with caution.

ADVICE (9am Wednesday 28 September 2022 until further notice)

Please be advised that we have received multiple reports of a submerged obstruction on the River Severn near Upton upon Severn.

Reports we have received suggest the obstruction is approximately 50 yards before the quarry loading bay, going south towards Upton Upon Severn. These reports also suggest the obstruction is completely submerged, and is near to the centre of the channel.

A team are on their way to mark this location with a safety buoy, while we arrange contractors for removal. In the meantime please navigate this stretch with caution.
